Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Oxford

Visited twice within a couple of days. Applebee's is a safe go-to place. Food is reliably good. Unfortunately, our first visit was a 5/5 visit (thank you server Jen!) and our visit last night was a -5/5. Our server was so interested in hanging out chatting with her friend eating alone at a corner table than checking on our food. We ordered an appetizer that took 40 minutes to arrive. I am pretty sure she forgot to put in our order. Whatever happened, the sampler platter arrived lukewarm. Mmm, chewy mozz sticks, gummy boneless wings, and we didn't get the dip sauce we asked for. Entrées eventually show up. I am not sure what is going on with the potato situation at this Applebee's. I was surprised by the very small fry portion but figured it was a one-off. The fry situation is dire. I personally am not a huge fry fan so no big. But my husband loves his fries and paid the 1.99 upcharge and got 9 waffle fries. I ordered the sweet and spicy chicken sandwich, unfortunately I was so stressed by this time I couldn't eat and instead brought it home. I ate the chicken portion later and it was ok. My husband ordered the double burger and received burned, dried out, gray pucks with shredded lettuce stuffed in the bottom to hide the concavity. Black char and burned cheese haloed the edges. It was disgusting but not wanting to risk kitchen revenge by sending it back he drenched it in ketchup and choked it down. Our server finally returns (food was delivered by others - one who commented that the order was on the wrong table) and asks how everything is. My husband said, "Well, to be honest horrible, this was the worst burger I have ever eaten." The manager was sent over and we explained the food situation (didn't complain about the poor service). My husband had ordered the same meal in our first visit and enjoyed it so much he ordered it this time. The manager's response "different cook." He comped the burger (not the waffle fries) and we left. Our business doesn't mean much but we probably won't be back...

We went at a time when the parking lot was near to empty.

There were 5 of us. We ordered drinks. Two of us ordered water with lemon, one ordered a bar drink, 2 ordered cola. Bar drink came way before anyone else got theirs. Water came without lemon. I asked for lemon, my friends made fun of me for being fussy. I wouldn’t have had to be….. anyway, wait person brought a small vessel with two pieces of lemon.

3 of us knew what we wanted for dinner so put in our order when we ordered appetizers. The other 2 ordered when the appetizers came.

Shortly thereafter, the 2 who ordered last, received their food. They started eating while the rest of us waited patiently, still eating appetizers. One of the last 2 called a wait person over and asked, pointing out they ordered last….

He went to check and immediately brought the rest of us our meal. He apologized more than once for his spotty waiting service. What could we say? Maybe they were short staffed and he was also the cook, I don’t know. Life happens. He didn’t explain.

I enjoyed the time with our friends.

My husband is often disappointed by Applebee’s because they spice everything like no one has working taste buds. Every time we ask for altered flavor, and we did ask for the herb mayo on the side, and no spice added to the meat, it came as though we never said a thing. He didn’t bother saying anything because of the ribbing I got over the lemon. He was mighty ill during the wee hours of that night.

We’ll eventually forget why we haven’t gone to Applebees in a while and get to craving those wanton tacos again. And the circle will...

We stopped in for dinner on Sunday Night. There were a total of 7 groups including us. The hostess came up and asked if there were two, and then proceeded to ignore me and then ask what when I said two, she never made eye contact again and just walked off. She tried to place us at a table right next to another group when there was no one else seated in the area, I had to ask to be seated at a booth. As we sat down she threw one set of silverware on the table and said she was going to get more. We never saw her again.

Over 15 minuets later our waitress finally came over to take our drink order. She stopped at the other table in the section 3 times while we waited. We ordered our drinks, appetizers (Which she had to clarify), and meals. She brought the drinks back pretty quickly, and then we did not see her for almost 30 minuets when she finally brought our food out, and no appetizer. We ate our meal thinking maybe the apps would follow but not too worried if they did not. We finished our food, and drinks, never got a refill and had to wait for her to come back with the check. Which had the apps on it, so I had to bring it up and she very poorly acted like she did not notice.

She took the check back and brought it back with a $6 discount. Not even the cost of the apps (They were part of a combo). We ended up paying and leaving, which is what they hopped for. Thief's and terrible service. The whole time we were there the whole staff was hanging around the end of the bar or in the kitchen. There was more staff then patrons and they could not provide even...
