My hubby discovered this little jewel on a work related trip in 1988. He liked it so much that he brought me back a few years later. We live over 8 hours away from this restaurant. So, we find ourselves back in New England on another trip and we decided to make a detour so that we could revisit Carl's Oxford Diner again. It has been 8 years since our last visit and couldn't pass up this opportunity. There is a pink pig bus as you come into town advertising the dinner that is around the corner. I ordered the steak tip special. It was absolute perfection! Cooked exactly the way I asked and the seasoning was fantastic! Eggs were over easy perfectly, toast was hot and buttery, potatoes were delish! And wow! It was a lot of food! A plate full of steak tips and a second plate for the 3 eggs and the pile of potatoes! I also had a hot tea, which was the standard Lipton tea bag and my favorite! The hubby tried the Billy's biscuit special, which is gravy and biscuits. It was very tasty. We also ordered the corn beef hash to try and he said it was tasty, unusual and different. I didn't care for it, but i don't like corned beef... We took home enough food for 3 more meals, and we were stuffed when we left. The portions are very generous. This little restaurant is so adorable with all of the signage hanging on the walls, the slide open front door. There are bar stools in the front with a couple of little tables when you first walk in. You can sit there and watch them cook the food, or there are a few booths in the back addition. No visit is complete without checking out the bathroom! It is actually outside the restaurant adjacent to the front door. It's a must see! We will be returning in a few days on our way back home. We are so lucky because if this has been next week, which is spring break, they would have been closed. So, if you are ever in the area, this is a fun place to eat and rest on...

Wow. I'm dumbfounded by these reviews that have given this place 5 stars. Friends of ours highly recommended this place. I am no longer friends with them because they ruined the most important meal of the day for me. As a matter of fact I will punch them in the face for it.

Let's start with the coffee....first cup looked more like tea. 2nd cup was not much better. Realized that all they were doing was simply running the water through the same grounds. I guess if you're lucky enough to get the first brew, you might get a decent cup.

I ordered the french toast and sausages, I finally received it after 30 - 40 minutes. What a huge disappointment. 5 thin slices of bread. What's more amazing, it was still raw in the middle. The sausages....who in the hell eats ten sausages. No real butter in site. Everything was margarine or vegetable oil.

Let's talk about the seating. Yeah there are lines out the door because the place is friggin tiny. We chose to sit at the counter, because I couldn't picture myself eating breakfast on a shelf for a table. We sat at the counter with the sink slightly to the front right of us. The dishwasher was doing his best to keep u with all the dirty dishes. Basically gave them a quick scrub and dunked them in a sink full of dirty water. What's worse we kept getting splashed with dirty dish water. Thankfully we managed to eat most of our food before he started washing the dishes.

The wait staff were nice. But after an hour of sitting in the diner you can't help but become friends with someone you've interacted with for a while. There is about 5 tables in the back, but you have to squeeze between the counter to get to it. The bathroom is outside.

Bottom line, you're going to get tons of crappy bland food here, but quantity does not mean quality. Do yourself a favor and go to the Picket Fence in Douglas, ma. You will get large portions and the food...

Four of us went to carls for breakfast as we offened "did" we had coffee and waited for our forth party. When he arrived he ordered a water which he received right before we left. We placed our order. Which was wrong and sent back. Had to keep flagging down our waitress and it really wasn't that busy. We payed the bill tip was according to the service but was tipped. Two of us went out side for about 5-10 mins. Other two people came out talk for another 5 mins. Three of us left and received a call that after we left the owner followed him to his car and was told how rude he was. Which he was not rude at all or in anyway and told they could refuse him service but failed to say one word when we were all there. But Graciously Followed the only Hispanic man that was in our party to his car after we left, to tell him he was rude and next time they would refuse him service that he did not need to come back. Not only did they a lose one customer they lost 4 I would never step foot in that establishment ever again. Just when you think ignorance and racism isn't in your back yard its actually serving you your breakfast. Shame on them. Ever worse to follow them to there car after everyone else left. Just shows what kind of Establishment it really is and I don't need to go to a place like that and shame on anyone else that pays good hard to earn cash to go to such a racist place. There are plenty of places willing to take his or anyone's money with out being judge for there...

It was a pile of slop to say it nicely. When the server put the plate down I was in shock. Grease dripping off the sides and literally it was like 3 lbs of food stacked all up. I ordered a omelet with veggies and hash it comes with home fries. I wouldn't call them home fries they are half cooked not browned or crispy and they are the size of half a potato no joke. The amount of grease slopped all over the plate really grossed me out. It was a mound of food all mixed together in a huge and I mean huge pile and not in a good way. The hash was like soggy luke warm and not crispy and cooked. It was so much inside I couldn't find the veggies. What a mess! When the server came over I apologized and said there is no way I can eat this nor does it look appetizing. She was very nice and said she just started there 2 days ago and was also quite shocked when she seen the food for the first time coming out. She explained that Carl's is known for massive piles of food and lots of grease. Im still just horrified to think that would be something someone wants to pay for and eat....will not return.

My husband and I stopped here a little after 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon. It was our first time here, and our experience went beyond our expectations. There was a friendly, hometown feeling as soon as we sat down. Evan, our waiter, was so nice and very attentive. I was never in want of hot coffee, and he made sure we had everything we needed. The food got to our table quickly, and holy moly, was there a lot of food! I ordered the pecan Belgian waffles. Unlike other places that just throw some pecans on top of a plain waffle, these had chopped pecans in every bite. And my bacon was well done, the way bacon should be. My husband ordered the steak and cheese omelet which overflowed the plate! He thought they were excellent. There was so much food, we took the rest home for dinner tonight. LOL All in all, I am so glad we finally made the trek to Oxford to try this diner. We will definitely be back, and we will definitely rave to our family and friends.
