Casa Mexicana of Oxford — Restaurant in Oxford

Okay, I have to admit that I have some great people in my life who share similar tastes when it comes to food. So, she had been raving about this upscale Mexican Restaurant that she wanted to take another colleague and me to for over a week. I’m glad to up my game in terms of dress attire because I was not only blown away by the food, service, and atmosphere, but also by the decor of this place.

She started us off with the Nachos Casa Mexicana. I kept vacillating between getting the Surf and Turf and the Noche Manhattan Fajitas with Chicken and Shrimp, and ultimately ended up choosing the latter. Every time I say I’m going to use restraint while indulging in starters/appetizers, it never happens. But, damn they are so good. Like always, when my food comes, I wind up eating only ¼ or ½ of it and taking the rest home. I’m never disappointed the next day when I warm it up correctly and continue to indulge in the rest until it’s finished. My colleague talked me into trying a spoonful or two of the decadent dessert, “Tres Leches.” There are no words I can give you (for the person who is not a dessert person). I’m shaking my head even as I write this. I’ll say, it was absolutely delicious.

A sign of a good dish. One thing I must admit is that I typically do not eat leftovers the next day. However, I must admit that this meal was an exception to the rule.

Waiter was TERRIBLE!! Brought wrong things consistently, brought our check before we got out food (which took 2 hours to get!!!!), lied about someone taking his ticket so he had to retake our order, and "readjusted" while taking our order. At least they had someone competent come and help us out and she was great! One member of our party went to give it a second chance and waited 2 hours AGAIN to get food! Disappointed with tonight's experience. I understand that it was Cinco de Mayo and service could be impacted. Our server tonight indifferent. Two in our party were celebrating birthdays so it was a special night for us. It really didn't seem to matter to her. Later in our dinner service, our server brought us 2 margaritas that we didn't order and told us,"Happy Birthday." We appreciated the gesture. She came back a few minutes later and told us she'd have to charge us for the 2 "birthday drinks" as she had made a mistake. Seriously?! She did charge us for 2 drinks we didn't order.
