Fishermen's Catch — Restaurant in Oxnard

I was in this area for the night on a work trip and discovered this place on Google. The reviews seemed positive enough so I decided to give it try for dinner. I got there shortly after they opened for dinner. When I first walked in, my initial thought was, “is this place open for business?” It had more of a deli/fish meat market than a dine in restaurant vibe. It was also odd because up entering it was not obvious if I needed to be seated or if I was supposed to order at the counter. There was one worker behind the counter that did not notice me standing there. Which I thought was odd since I was the only person in there and I was standing right in front of him. To be honest I couldn’t tell if he worked there or was a delivery/repair person. So I decided to initiate the conversation by asking if they were open for dinner. He responded yes and asked me what I’d like to order. The menu was a little confusing so I asked him what he recommended. He said that I should try one of the plate meals that included fish, veggies and rice. I went his recommendation opted for the salmon. I sat myself in the spacious dinning area. There were plenty of tables and booths to choose from. I decided on a booth that could have easily fit 4 people. My food came out relatively quick. The person’s that brought my meal was very friendly and helpful. The portions were good. Overall the flavor and seasoning was average. I added some lemon and hot sauce to the salmon to give it a little more flavor. My meal was not mind blowing but it wasn’t bad either. I’d say it was right in the middle of the road. Not a bad spot but not a great...

For starters… when I arrived I wasn’t even acknowledged by the front counter staff… a young man was helping cash out a lady and another couple was looking at the menu… the other staff person a female tall 5’9 returned to the counter to collect a order, then she help a Caucasian male with what appeared an application, again no eye contact, then a party of five walked in and still I wasn’t acknowledge, I solo male walked in and the female helped him, I am stilling being ignored, I am beginning to think because I am of brown color skin, only staff noticing me are the cooks beyond the prep area, two males and two females , at this point I address a female cook in Spanish, she comes forward and states that she can’t help me and that I should ask the 5’9 Caucasian female, now I have hers and the other front male staffer, too late for apologies, I asked for my order in Spanish and address the 5’9 white caucasian female . The male worker now gives me his attention, again too late, she apologized because in her opinion it was busy , NO … not busy, I advised them I would not return and post my review and spread the word. I have order many times before from Fishermen’s Catch, they must of changed the cook because the clam chowder and fish n chips tasted different, the batter was awful and my fries sat there so long they we’re wilted. Unfortunately I had to mark one star but I would rather put none…. 1 to 10…....

I went for lunch on Sunday , 08/25/2024 with a group of 06 people. Inside the restaurant, we grabbed some menus and stayed away from the cash register to discuss and explain to our foreign friends what the menu consisted of and to choose the meals. Right after, the employee at the cash register came to us and asked what we wanted, I replied that we were not ready yet and we will come to her when we are ready. When ready, we started our order and I noticed that employee had no manners with bad attitude, rude and disrespectful. I asked her what was wrong with her, if she was okay and with her hypocrite smile replied okay and with no respect at all talked to me in appropriate manner. I told her to not talk to me with that bad attitude and I don’t allow to anyone to disrespect me. I canceled my order, asked another employee if the owner was there, she replied that he was not and that she was the manager. I explained her of the situation and hope that she will send her report to the owner. I don’t know how that cashier ended up working in that restaurant with her bad attitude. I will never go back to that restaurant and will never recommend that place to anyone. We went to the other restaurant next to it called “Gyromania” that restaurant was extremely clean, well decorated, excellent and friendly customer service, very tasty food, nice portions and excellent prices. Very nice concept, bravo...
