Update to the update: I decided to go one more time to Nashmi this time I asked for no tahini sauce garlic on the side and asked for the meat to be ROASTED the girl then said you mean “well done?” Duhhhhh so I got my sandwiches and as soon as I opened it it smelled like shawarma! Definitely worth it! The flavor was perfect without any sauces (garlic sauce didn’t appeal to me either but others may like it) see pictures for picture of well done compared to my previous purchase (ps it can use more color but it’s still good enough)
Packaged well in special foil wrap and a unique box, fries were decent & salt-free (I think, don’t worry I add my own salt, just noting this for those who have blood pressure problems).
The sandwiches were smaller than we’re used to here in the U.S. and in Palestine, and in Jordan I only tried the wrap sandwiches so I don’t know if this pita size is the norm there or not, but 2 sandwiches may equal 1 full pita.
The meat looked fresh but had no roasted color or flavor، it’s almost as if they cooked it on the griddle (like how Philly cheesesteak meat is without the cheese & onions) and not a spinning grill; meat tastes different when it’s exposed to fire & roasted/grilled (which is what I love about shawarma) than un-roasted/grilled meat (which makes me gag) hence that’s the reason influencing my opinion on the sandwich. Sandwich had runny flavorless tahini sauce (no salt no lemon just water with a hint of tahini), I suggest you try their other sauces as they may have better flavor than the tahini. They put onions pickles and tomatoes in the sandwich but the amount is minute and barely noticeable. Someone I know tried the kufta sandwich and said it was good.
Would I try it again? Not unless i know they will give me roasted...

The staff all have smiling faces and the business is very clean to the point where you can’t spot a fingerprint on anything!!!! Super tidy and clean!!! When I ever I enter a shawarma spot in Illinois there’s that weird smell right when you open the door that makes you regret coming but not NASHMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nashmi is hands down the best shawarma spot in Illinois with its non oily and non greasy sandwiches and more!!!!! You taste every single ingredient in your food everything is on point and to its best. Phenomenal experience!!!!!! Everything is so on point I almost thought I was in Nashmi in Amman Jordan!!!!! Very good!! Very Good!!! If you have tried Nashmi in Jordan you will not be able to spot a difference. This will be my go to shawarma spot everyday I’m in the area!!! Even if I wasn’t in the area this would still be my first go to. It’s worth every penny for the extra drive!!!! Read moreI had a great experience at Nashmi! From the moment I walked in, the service was five-star. I ordered a meat shawarma sandwich with no onions, and they got it exactly right—came out hot, fresh, and exactly how I asked. The fries were also on point: crispy, salted perfectly, and clearly fresh out the fryer.
To be honest, I came in after reading some of the other reviews and was surprised by the negativity. People need to understand that this is a soft opening—the entire purpose of a soft opening is to work out any kinks before the official grand opening. Expecting perfection and leaving harsh reviews during a test phase is, in my opinion, not fair to any new business trying to get things right.
If there are mistakes after the grand opening, that’s the time to provide constructive criticism. But right now, Nashmi is doing an incredible job, and my visit was nothing short of a five-star experience.
Give them a fair shot—they’re clearly putting in the effort to deliver great food and...
