The food was fine, the staff was nice, but the service was pretty atrocious. There was no one really visible to help seat us when we arrived but ultimately we stopped a waitress walking around and got ourselves a table on the patio. From there it took our waiter about 10 minutes to show up, after we had already sent a member of our party to get our own menus.

That was the consistent theme of the night. Just no service anywhere. And the patio was in total disarray. There was a clearly broken chair at our table when we arrived. The wind was blowing napkins and to-go containers on the outside bar all over the patio, and the only people with the interest in cleaning things up and putting a weight on the things getting blown around were other customers.

I made a bathroom trip at one point and the staff inside was friendly and helpful, but I also noticed next to the bathroom was another back entrance where I could see my waiter who had been missing the past 15 minutes smoking a cigarette. I've worked in the service industry, I get it that people need breaks, but this wasn't a very busy night and our server was always missing. And having the employee smoke spot in such a conspicuous area I thought was just setting it up for angry customers.

When our food did arrive, my friend (who was a former waiter) commented that it was cold and had been obviously been left out waiting to be delivered to customers. Most people thought their food was good otherwise, though I didn't care much for the stuffed veal. Thought it was just way too heavy. Maybe I should have expected that though.

When we got in the car my friend's father said that he definitely had enough German food for the foreseeable future, and the mom commented that the next time we'd go somewhere else after such bad service. I don't say this as a threat because I think the "we'll take our business elsewhere" threat kind of empty on these reviews, but know that I'm from out of town, and all my party had been building up excitement for this dinner for a few days, and then pretty much the whole party was fully disappointed in the experience last night. And I say that out of guilt because the staff all seemed like cool people I'd like to hang out with otherwise, but if they were in charge of my business, I'd have some angry conversations with them after that unacceptable (FRIDAY NIGHT!) dinner...

This review isn't the fairest as I am from Chicago were I feel we have best variety of legit authentic foods. Also I too come from, grew up in, and worked in the service industry for 30+ years. Service was slow on a weekday around lunch. They were noticeably busy, I understand the pressure of getting everyone cared for practically alone. With that said, there seemed to be only one young man serving approximately 10 FULL tables by himself. At a glance this was over 25 people at one time. I believe there were three other people not including kitchen staff, one at bar, one in expo, and one not doing much of anything, just doing a lot of pointing, telling others what to do. Moving on to ordering. I asked for Hofbrau, the young server stared at me for a moment. I added "beer" he said I don't know. .... he didn't ask for help or offer any beer alternatives... later I asked what a certain dish was and the poor kid said I don't know.. I asked at least what does it look like, after some hims and haws there was a slight answer. Kid was super nice but he was over worked and does not have the knowledge he needs to be left ALONE with a full restaurant. I don't usually go into this much detail but as I said I come from the service industry and this was one of the most uniquely annoying stops I have ever made. Food was nothing to get excited about. Large portions, no options for sauces, Pop was watered down, couldn't even tell what it was..., and I didn't even drink it but was still charged 3 dollars for it. I tipped the kid 20 percent as my usual minimum (im usually an over tipper, again I come from this industry). Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this place. Had I seen more team work I may have a much different opinion. Much respect to the kitchen staff (one, maybe two people) who seemed also short handed and cooking all those plates at one time. I believe it took at least 45 minutes to get our meals, soup and bread came at same time since they were so backed up. Sorry guys. Trying to be as fair as possible. A great team...

the place was clean, very good service, and fast. the pretzel was hand made and fresh, not frozen. soft, good. mustard was good and spicy. beer cheese was rather bland. the bread was soft, fresh, warm, but unfortunately served with butter that was cold and hard. the pierogies appeared to be deep fried, meh. the potato filling was flavorless and bland. the sauerkraut balls were fantastic- my favorite dish, and were drizzled with some type of jalapeno aioli, it wasnt too spicy though, it was great. the potato pancakes were decent, fluffy texture, not dense, a bit greasy. served with sour cream and applesauce. i ordered the chicken dumpling soup expecting a cream based chicken soup with dumplings in it- what i got was a broth based bowl of typical chicken noodle soup. noodles like you would see in alphabet soup- that is NOT a dumpling in my opinion. total disappointment. the spaetzle was just like macaroni and cheese. i was expecting the crispy pan fried spaetzle. no. this was soft cooked noodle, like its boiled. the cheese on it was bland. Someone else ordered the pork schnitzel and said that it was good, two other people had the German potato salad and both said that that was good also and more sour than sweet. the black forest torte was good, and huge!! although it came out quite cold. not sure if it was homemade or a frozen cake. shouldve been served more at room temp so it wouldve softened up the texture. the steak kabobs were absolutely horrendous, possibly the worst bite of meat i ever attempted to eat. i took one bite, it was so tough i couldnt even bite through it!... and flavorless and had gristle. i just spit it out and didnt even attempt to eat it. It was like it had been frozen for 5,000 years. cant believe they would serve meat like that. would not go back for anything except the sauerkraut balls. also, upon entering they had a really nice unique textured painting on the wall which deserves to be mentioned. i...

Definitely more on the American side of german dishes. I ordered the trio sausages (hard to mess up). The original plate was pretty good;it came with cooked cabbage, pierogies, sour cream, and mustard. Not super traditional considering I've never seen a single German restaurant serve it with sour cream (but good, I suppose), and I've never seen a German place sell it with such a bitter untextured mustard. The links themselves were good, but the cabbage was on the sweeter end (I prefer mine cooked with more alcohol and slightly more acidic, but that's preferance). The cabbage was good overall, but it was missing red cabbage which is also something I've never seen a German restaurant not serve either. My grandmother was able to get some plain chicken there since she has stomach trouble and they were super nice about it, but then again, they were very friendly the whole time. When I went to get leftovers boxed, that's when things became strange. I asked for another side order of the cabbage and sour cream, but the waitress kept insisting that it was pasta and cabbage. I kept telling her no, it was just the cabbage. After her not understanding for the 3rd time, I just said whatever and took it with the noodles, which wasn't the same AT ALL (too carby, not as sweet or acidic, etc). I asked them if I could order a beer (unopened) to take back to the hotel. They said they had German beer and I asked for the darkest they had (turns out it was from the bar across the street anyhow, so they were charging more for it I guess) but the darkest was an American-German brew that was lucky if it was even as dark as a light stout. For a light stout, it was surprisingly decent, but still had that watered down American taste and I could only drink half because of how gross it was (not even close to a good German beer at all). Overall the restaurant is good if you want German food, but don't mind it being less than traditional or authentic to its core.
