I go to this store several times a week as it's close to my house & has a lot of what I normally buy. I'm usually friendly with the workers there, & most of them know me since I'm there often. I've worked in customer service for nearly two decades, & I try to be understanding since this industry can be taxing. But yesterday I had an experience I was not expecting.
On 7/27/2024 I stopped in there around 2:30pm to grab a few things like I normally do. The cashier isn't someone I see that frequently, & she had another woman with shorter length, dark hair with her on duty. I go to tap my debit card, to check out my items & it asks me for my information, which I put in the machine. It's processing & the cashier mentions to the other one on staff "the machine is doing it again", what it was doing, I wasn't sure. On my notifications on my bank app, it showed that the transaction for the purchase amount had gone through. The cashier without as much as apologizing for their machine acting wonky, & rather with an attitude says that the transaction didn't go through & I would need to pay again. She offered no proof such as showing me her screen saying it was "denied" or there was an error, especially since it had been deducted from my account. A receipt printed at the bottom but I was not allowed to see it. I told her I was uncomfortable with this because the amount had been taken & it was none of her business, but I didn't have the funds in that specific account to cover another transaction for the same amount at that moment. The second lady with the shorter, dark hair came over at that time. She was overly rude & said I couldn't have the items & I would have to "deal with it later with my bank", so I left them at the counter. I went outside to have a minute to call my husband & ask if I should still shop here & transferred money to that card from an emergency account to use again since I did need the items. I repurchased the items, but I left a few items behind to lower the cost of my bill. In these times when scams & skimmers are very real, I was weary. I know that they are just doing their jobs. Working in customer service, had she explained it with a little more civility instead of being rude, let me know that I would not be charged twice, that I would receive a refund, that it was an error with their machine, acted like she understood & offered just an "I'm sorry, the system is f'd up", I may have had a better reaction & not have been as weary or frustrated. No one wants to be charged twice, no one wants to see money withdrawn from their account, have physical proof of such & then be denied their purchase. Plus, many people like myself might not be able to just be recharged for those items right away & be charged twice. Some go in with a certain amount of $, & can't afford for a mistake on their end to cause them to have to charge us double & then leave it for us to deal with later. Whether that refund comes in 10 minutes, 10 hours, 10 days.

Read moreI’m not sure what all the negativity and complaints are about. I’ve been to this store several times and I’ve never had a problem. I’m not talking for a few things either, but around $100 or so. I have always been able to find everything and I have always had good customer service. If it is really that bad at this store for some, maybe you should stop whining and go somewhere else. No one is forced to come in here against your will. Life is full of choices, including the choice to come here and shop or choose not to.
I can’t stand when people complain about a place so bad, but keep coming back. Clearly it’s not changing to your liking so go elsewhere. If I go in somewhere and don’t like it, I don’t go back. Then if I do choose to go back, well that’s my choice...
Read moreWhile I do love shopping at dollar general, the store I was at on Ridge rd in Parma, was terrible. The cashier was the rudest lady I think I've ever met. I completely understand having bad days but my goodness her attitude was atrocious. This is not the first time ive been to this store and had this person as a cashier. She is just a miserable human being and has no desire to even try to be friendly. I'm sorry but when you're in customer service, you should at the very least say hi, not berate a customer in front of others because you don't want to take the time to do your job.
