Ordered 2 XL bowls of pho. I go to pick it up and the Indian guy gives me another order instead. I really can't understand what he's saying but after about 3-4 times I learned the order he set next to me was not part of my order which was a good thing because I didn't want 1 bowl cold and 1 hot.
I take the pho home and unpack. The chopsticks were bent which was a first for me. Not a big deal. The noodle serving was a bit undersized for XL but the toppings (bean sprouts, jalapeños, etc.) serving was bountiful. Meat serving size good too. However, here's the problem...
The cooked beef meat always tastes like it had all its flavor drained from it to make the broth, stored later (expired too? read on...), then inserted into the dish on-demand. It has no flavor. It's been like this the last 2 years when I sporadically order from here and I was hoping I had bad batches. This time, my wife and I got sick. She puked it up and my stomach is still rumbling this next morning as I write this.
I think the shop intends well but anyone that knows how pho should taste would not rate this high at all based on my assessment and after being sick this time I'm particularly concerned about the process and health hazards associated.
I'm trying to find a spot that comes close to Superior Pho in overall quality and until Tay Do changes their cooked beef process, there's no comparison. Wouldn't make top 5 as is but could compete for #1 if their cooked beef didn't sicken customers and had great natural flavor preserved. Maybe their other food is good but I'm rating based on my favorite dish, the...
Read moreFirst of all, I’d be amiss if I didn’t mention how wonderfully nice the owners here are. Perhaps my experience came on a bad day. My wife and daughter had been here on another occasion and raved about how nice she (the owner) was and how amazing the food had been.
I got to try it out with them last Friday (1/24). The food and portions were good, but that was pretty much where it stopped.
It was a pretty chilly day last Friday, and the restaurant was fairly crowded leaving us to be seated by the entrance. Keep in mind, there’s a foyer leading in, but only a door exiting the building. Where there should be doors leading in from the foyer, they have sheets hanging. So each time that door from outside opens, all that Arctic air came into the restaurant and hit the people seated at the tables closest.
The service was subpar. The tables are packed together so tightly that I had to duck out of the way each time someone walked past. I literally had them move the empty chair from my table to create an aisle, but it wasn’t enough. There were two younger men who were waiting all of the tables, and they had the attention span of a toddler. It took an act of congress to get their attention and get them to come to our table.
The time it took for them to take our order, and then to bring our food was unacceptable at best.
In summary, the place was an icebox, the service was bad, the food was good but took entirely too long to get. And worst of all, we really didn’t get to interact with the owners this time because they must have been in the...
Read morethis place is sub par at best. they dont even have grilled pork. they offered me meatballs over the phone, well, refer to the pic and see the meat to vermicelli ratio. a lot of vermicelli sure but where is the meat? tiny portions for meat. and they dont even have banh mi and this is supposed to be a vietnamese place. they also no longer have banh xeo. spring rolls were fine but what vietnamese place messes up on spring rolls? i was in the area shopping so i stopped by but i can see the better pho places are in asia town. i dont understand the near five star review whats going on with people around here all the mediocre places that couldnt compete in california all have near five star reviews in ohio?? the girl on the phone couldnt understand me saying “bahn meeh” and “bahn shee-oh” arent you used to the local demographics butchering the pronunciation of vietnamese words to begin with? also this vietnamese place seemingly prefers to sell “egg rolls” over “spring rolls” and this is the second place (both in ohio) where they call the “egg rolls” as “spring rolls”. back in california the rice paper ones were always “spring rolls” for some reason two vietnamese places i came across in ohio calls egg rolls as “spring rolls” which confuses me and should be confusing...
