I ordered a shrimp cocktail for my appetizer, which is not on the menu but the waitress said that they were happy to serve one. When she placed it in front of me she said that "the reason it took so long was because they had to cook it." I thought that was odd, considering that usually shrimp cocktail is cold, but this shrimp was lukewarm and a yellowish-brown color and for some reason served on a bed of plain salad with cocktail sauce on the side. I tasted one and it was old and gritty. They were happy to remove it from my bill. The rolls were cold and old, and my water glass had a sticky orange substance on the outside of the rim. I was afraid to get anymore seafood so I ordered the spinach enchiladas for my entree, my husband ordered the chicken fried chicken, french fries and a side salad. The enchiladas arrived completely covered with cheese and it took a bit of effort to penetrate the melted cheese and unbaked enchiladas. I'm pretty sure the spinach was frozen not fresh and underneath the massive amount of cheese was a plain white tortilla, which obviously had never seen the inside of an oven. Surprisingly, my husband's food was delicious, as were the rice and charro beans that were served with my enchiladas. Pepper's boasts homemade salad dressing and the blue cheese dressing had no flavor whatsoever. For the first time in my life I had to salt and pepper my salad. I picked out the blue cheese to taste and it was bland also, causing me to wonder whether or not it was old cheese or just cheap blue cheese. It didn't help that I had to remind the waitress 15 minutes after receiving our entrees that we were missing our salad. Also, we sat next to a wall that had a giant hole in the wall paper and a layer of dust on the woodwork around the window. After the waitress took my entree away the (I'm assuming) chef came outside (at this time my husband and I were the only people in the restaurant) and began making small talk with the bus lady. He gestured towards my table while talking and the bus lady looked me directly in the eye while he was talking. I can only guess what they were speaking about, and it wasn't friendly. I'll never eat here again. Also, about a year ago I came here with my in laws and was served dirty, gritty oysters on the half shell, one of which tasted the way that baby poop smells. I hope they sell this restaurant to someone who cares soon, it seems as if it may be a historical restaurant in Pasadena Tx, or at least...
Read moreWhat a great experience this turned out to be. Peppers is a midsized Non-chain restaurant in Pasadena, Tx. This was my first time here and I was impressed. The building from the outside is beautifully maintained and welcoming, with a uniquely landscaped front garden. Once inside it gets better. We were greated by a friendly young host and taken through an immaculately clean dining room to our table. It is a real, sit down restaurant. It is calm, was quiet, and comfortable. There were couples, small groups, and families with children. Our waiter arrived with menus almost immediately. The menu is not huge but had something for everyone. I don't remember seeing hot dogs but I didn't look at the kid menu. It has a varied offering of steaks, seafood, pasta, chicken, hamburgers, veggies, sides, and appetizers. Oh yeah, and a very nice full bar. They make an excellent lemondrop martini. The serving size of our meals was generous and appealing. Many of the entrees offer a size choice in case you want a smaller meal. The fried catfish and shrimp entree was huge with thick perfectly fried seafood. It made me wish I had some of those shrimp. My pan-seared redfish crabmeat/butter sauce was excellent. The smothered steak was also very tasty with a nice, thick steak burger under gravy and onions. Our sides were not canned or bland. A big fully loaded (no scrimping) baked potato, big, thick asparagus...everything really was upscale quality food and worth the somewhat expensive price. Most of the entrees I was interested in were $16 to $25 dollars that included 2 sides and dinner rolls. But hey, you can barely get anything under $15 dollars at Cheddars and that is for canned, frozen, and mushy food. So yes, if I am getting a nice dinner out I would rather splurge a little and go back to Peppers. I don't know if my food pics do this restaurant justice and I wish I had taken pictures of the really nice dining room. The plates are loaded and presented nicely. The ONLY thing that needs improvement in my opinion is the dinner rolls. They were disappointing. We were too full to try any desert this time. I would recommend Peppers based on an excellent first time dining experience. My parents...
Read morePeppers is a super nice place in Pasadena. I think it's a one of a kind for the area. They have good food good service etc .. but what gets me every time is those fish tanks. They are immaculate. I'm in awe at how cared for and vibrant those tanks are. They are beautiful. I get caught up just looking at them. I could probably spend a whole day just looking at all the fish and enjoying the great tanks Also peppers has steak. And I love steak! Ok any thing else about peppers? I like the name a lot. I always think it's named after someone like someone's kid lil pepper but I think it's just like salt and pepper not salt and Peppa from the 90s super girl rap duo y'all know salt salt salt salt and peppas here. Push it push it real good! That would be a good spokes person for peppers steak house if they got salt and Peppa to do a commercial that would be funny. Ok love the place if you haven't been yet get over there on your next meal out. There's lunch and dinner and they are famous for their...
