Tropical Delight Delivery & Takeout — Restaurant in Paterson

Bought a $25 worth of food, an $18 ribs "platter" for my son's friend at the Montclair Jambouree that turned out to be miniscule. Yes, I did I ask to skip the two regular sides for mac and cheese and the girl said it would be a small portion, so I paid another 7 for what was supposed to be a second side of mac. Still tiny. The supposed ribs platter was a few small pieces. I thought it was a mistake, went back and asked if they had left off the extra side of mac and cheese or did a side of ribs and one side of mac instead of the platter but they told me that was the whole order. He was so hungry after that snack I had to give him half of my meal (which I thankfully got elsewhere and had twice the food for 1/2 the price). I know food truck event prices are a bit higher but this could not be reasonably called anything more than two sides.

Update The response from the owner is simply not the case. My son's friend did not sit there and eat his entire meal. He probably tried a bite before leaving. I also was back at the truck within two minutes. We live around the corner so planned to take our various food home to eat. I honestly thought they left the extra side of mac and cheese behind. My son snd I are pescatarian/vegetarian, and my son had a fish sandwich from another stand with him so wouldn't have eaten any ribs. I had been debating the vegetarian platter, but when I saw the size of the "platter" was glad I hadn't.

Of course event prices are higher, but platter sizes should not shrink so much. What my son's friend got was basically two sides for $25, and he was still hungry after he finished it at our home. I understand serving at festivals is hard work. My tip for the next event(s) to avoid complaints is to serve the portions advertised. It's too bad because I probably would have gone to the storefront sometime to try the vegetarian options, had the meal...

Food is good. However the SERVICE/WORKERS suck!!! If you are not Jamaican they will make you wait... or even skip over you to serve someone else. Rude and horrible service is what makes this place a complete DUMP!! If they polished up on manners it would be worth it but I refuse to give my money to a place who does not appreciate their customers! Ps one star is being generous!

It isn’t unfortunate I took time out to write a review that’s what makes companies grow or fail. You are correct we did wait patiently BUT when you have my order sitting in it’s container on the counter as you answer the phone, package someone else’s order and grab drinks for someone else then yes I am going to be inpatient- especially after the waiting the supposedly 10-15mins of seafood (which I am sure is already made and sitting in a pot like the other food you have) And yes I have been coming there for maybe a year or so- and every time I’ve been patient and gave it another chance. But clearly service will not change but prices will (hence the renovations ) . The attention and quick response you have to an online review should be the same during direct customer care. My boyfriend and I drove through on our way back from Philadelphia and stopped at this location for lunch, we ordered curry goat, oxtail and jerk pork. We came early but decided to wait for the rice and peas to finish cooking to have with our meals. We have eaten at many many Jamaican style restaurants and I have to say this was the best food we have had so far from all over the states, it was like actually being in Jamaica. Soul food for sure. Little to say, I had to go back and order more curry goat and oxtail to have when we got home because we knew what we ordered wouldn’t last us all the way back to Vermont, and the portions were a great amount, they surely didn’t lack in any way. The staff were pleasant and I wish I remembered her name, but one of the nice staff even gave me great information about local grocery shopping in the area because I told her we travel so far for certain items to have at home. She took time to write me out some local grocery stores with addresses. Thank you for the wonderful service and absolutely lovely food. Love and appreciation truly went into making this food.
