Paterson Free Public Library — Attraction in Paterson

I stopped by while visiting the city and had about three hours to spend. I asked if they had any books about Paterson so I could learn more about the city during my stay — surprisingly, they couldn’t find a single one. It felt ironic that a city library wouldn’t have something about its own local history or culture.

Another odd part of the visit was needing to show ID just to use the restroom. I understand it might be for safety reasons, but it’s a bit inconvenient for visitors from out of town.

That said, I really liked the building — it has an old charm to it, and the architecture feels like it has stories to tell. The staff were polite, but the library could definitely do more to showcase the history of the city...

I grew up in Paterson and spent much of my time there. It was a wonderful place full of information it was so convenient for me being that I lived in the area. I remember going there to do an assignment on the #DeweyDecimalSystem which was used to separate books according categories…I’m telling my age 😂😂😂it was a place of learning and where us teenagers often met up, sometimes to the dismay of the librarians, because we would become a little #loud but never ever #disrepectful. This is a hidden gem 💎 of Paterson. Very nice, helpful, professional staff. They are always having events there to help the public and events especially for the resident children. I recently saw a flyer advertising that they now have movies online that members of the library can rent for free with their library card. They offer many other programs for the holidays , ECT. Not to mention a great selection of books that they offer, and they are very understanding if your books are late.
