I almost didn't want to write a review on this amazing little gem of a place in my neighborhood simply because I,selfishly, don't want it to get too popular and then have a hard time getting a table. Alas, I couldn't resist raving about it to everyone and, in these uncertain times, I wouldn't want this restaurant to ever go out of business. To start, they have taken amazing measures to ensure safety and adhere to Covid restrictions. They have set up tables outside under a tarp tent and along the side of the building but they've done it in such a way that you do not notice you're facing a parking lot. They have shades that are pulled down, blocking your view of the parking lot and plants around tables that are so pleasing to the eyes. They have a QR code that you scan with your phone to access their website and menu. The waitresses wear masks and are so pleasant to talk to and know what to suggest on the menu. We've had Cindy and Casey and are such sweet young ladies, it's a pleasure to be served by them. Cindy jokes with my husband that he won't finish the french toast THIS time. 😊
My husband had the dish that they apparently are known for, The Huevos Rancheros. He absolutely loved it and has had them again 3 times now! They are $15 but the portion is huge and I suspect that most people wouldn't be able to eat all of it in one sitting (except for my husband, of course). He raves about how the steak tips are cooked to perfection every time. He loves the french toast, too.
I, myself, have Celiac disease and require a strict gluten free diet. I couldn't believe the AMAZING gluten-free pancakes they have there! I had the tall stack, which are 3 HUGE pancakes and I ordered them with fresh blueberries, which is a dollar more but totally worth it, and I also paid a little extra for a small 1.7 oz bottle of pure Vermont maple syrup too. So, I did end up paying about $15 for my pancakes but, I couldn't even finish it. They are so fluffy and filling! My husband finished them off and couldn't believe they were gluten free. I had a side of bacon, which were cooked so crispy and weren't greasy at all. The second time I went, I had 2 eggs, bacon, homefries & gluten-free toast which was delicious but couldn't resist ordering the gluten-free pancakes as well and splitting them with my husband. Needless to say, we don't need to eat for 8 hours after we eat here! Lol The fact that you can order a Bloody Mary or a Mimosa is just icing on the cake. I haven't had any but have ordered the fresh squeezed orange juice, which is another upcharge but I can't get enough of it. 😋 I can't say what the inside of the restaurant looks like because we've chosen to sit outside everytime but I've heard it's pleasantly decorated. Unfortunately, right now the bar can't be used because of the restrictions.
I really love the fact that this is a local small restaurant that is owned a run by a couple (read their story on their website) and I am so proud to support such an amazing place owned by wonderfully,...
Read moreOMG... one of my new favorite Great Providence area Breakfast spots... these guys obviously know their way around a kitchen and a dining room! I had the Avocado and Bacon Benedict... which you would be fairly simple but the whole is the sum of it’s parts... the English muffin was toasted correctly and crispy but not burnt(✔️), the poached eggs were poached perfectly with firm whites slightly loose just around the soft warm yokes (✔️), the thick cut tasty bacon was firm and crispy but cut nicely and was dense enough to be speared by the fork without splintering (✔️), the avocado was also perfect and at the correct ripeness as to be firm, flavorful and tasty as hell(✔️), Antonio’s Latino heritage shown through them by this tell and finally at least for the Benny part... is the real delicious lemony rich delicious warm hollandaise(✔️). the final high marks are for the asparagus, cooked perfect as well as the home fried potatoes...Again...OMG...
The Decor is clean, simple nicely decorated for a country style breakfast and lunch cafe. The tables are appointed well, the service wear was a tiny bit fragile but certainly excusable. The cups are hefty enough for the great coffee that fill them... I drink my coffee black... if it’s good and their Colombian roast is great black. The brown chairs are comfortable too... that leaves price... very fair, music at an appropriate level and the lighting terrific too.
I loved every bit of mine and my sons plate from his French toast and side of ham with real maple syrup was returned as clean as it started the shift... he was equally impressed with his breakfast and when he pulled his head away from his phone he devoured the offering quickly and soon returned to the devise... that is his version...
Read moreRhody Hen is probably my favorite breakfast place of all time. I first came here a year and a half or so ago with my boyfriend. He is local to the area but I am not and I found the place online neither of us had been there and decided to try it and it was amazing. It’s a sentimental spot to eat for me and I always love how welcoming the staff is. The owner actually works in the kitchen and always answers any questions anyone has. She really cares about her customers and service. I’m only now writing a review because I noticed a few comments about issues that I wanted to address. It is slightly pricier than most local diners but it isn’t like most diners or cafes. All of the things on the menu are especially curated and include a lot of ingredients that are carefully made. If you read the menu you’ll notice how intricate each dish is so the prices seem more than reasonable. Secondly, as stated in a previous comment street parking is allowed where the hospital signs are because the hospital has since been shut down. As for space, yes it is a small restaurant but it is spacious enough to accommodate groups of 4 or maybe larger upon request but it is first come first serve. I myself am a hostess at a restaurant I understand the frustration of waiting for a table but reservations can sometimes make the quality of the service worse if they are waiting on a party and have customers who are “walk ins” as well this way it just evens the playing field for everyone plus it’s worth the wait! The restaurant is great, the staff is great, and you will feel great after you eat here besides being absolutely stuffed! I will actually be coming in today with my boyfriend and I can’t wait to have another...
