My husband surprised me and took me here to get seafood. I ordered a cup of seafood bisque and a fried shrimp/catfish. He ordered a smash burger and a side salad. The whole dinner was strange. They brought out my seafood bisque but it was not hot and she didn't bring his salad. I sat there waiting for the waitress to come back with my husband's salad so I could ask her if she could ask to have it heated. A few minutes later she comes by to fill his drink and she took my soup with her. 4-5 minutes later his salad comes out. It was at that time that i noticed all of the gunk in between the wood at the table. I thought it was possibly glue coming undone but there was no glue between the other pieces. I put the end of my fork to it and it crumbled off 🤢 About 5 minutes after that, our meals come out. No soup, though, so I figured she forgot. My food was horrible, which could have been the gunk ruining my appetite, but the only thing edible was the french fries. His burger had a very strong mustard on it, along with bacon pieces that were not listed on the menu. He had to take all of the bacon off and still couldn't eat most of it because of the mustard. My bisque finally comes back out hot but with a scoop of rice in it. I didn't think bisque had rice in it so I was a little taken off guard. She sees us not eating and asks if everything was tasting okay. My husband chose not to say anything about his food, but I told her that I didn't like anything. She came back with the check with the bisque taken off the bill and the, she actually said this, kids eat free Wednesday off of the check. We didn't even know they ate for free until then. I said something about it and we ended up just paying because we were frustrated at that point. We get that it is a mom and pop place and they have to stay in the green, but maybe a manager could have come to the table to apologize, especially since they still charged for the more expensive item?.? You have only one chance to make a great first impression to a customer and we were not at all impressed. We won't be back. Hopefully this was just an off night but we are not...
Read moreMy wife and I visited Hometown Seafood last night and it was worth every penny! The food and service were OUTSTANDING! I've been saying for years that the east end of Pearland needed a nicer seafood place like this and I'm happy it's finally here! Our server Alyssa took great care of us, despite it being her first job as a server she handled my wife's multiple requests like a pro.
We got the Dirty Dozen oyster appetizer so we could try them all. Each was terrific, and I typically don't care for anything other than raw oysters. My wife also hates bell peppers but she even liked the "Casino" style ones despite having peppers in them.
For dinner I went with the mahi puffy tacos with a caesar salad. Hometown Grill (and the former Mex-Sea-Co) is famous for them and they didn't disappoint. The fish was grilled to perfection, all tender and fluffy. I also like the fact that they came with lettuce instead of coleslaw.
My wife wanted the fried shrimp and fish dinner but she's not a fan of southern style cornmeal breading. I noticed they have another item made with tempura batter on the menu so we asked if they could make the shrimp and fish with the tempura and they did it no problem. It turned out incredible! The shrimp were very big and the fish was so soft and fluffy with some nice herbs/spices added. In addition, the tarter sauce is King's Inn style, which we had never heard of and it's magnificent. Tarter sauce can make or break a seafood joint, and this stuff definitely made it!
The owners Ram Aguilera and his wife Stacie definitely make the place feel welcoming to everyone. I saw Stacie stop at every single table to make sure people were enjoying their dining while we were there. They are also very supportive of the community with all sorts of charity events happening at their other spot Hometown Grill (which is also great,...
Read moreWe were supposed to try a new brunch spot on Sunday but it was a 45 min to 1 hour wait! Absolutely not! Since we were in the Pearland area, I called my coworker to see what she suggested as an alternative and she told us about Hometown Seafood.
I was skeptical at first because a lot of people hadn’t reviewed this restaurant but I figured we could give it a try since it was lunch time and we hadn’t eaten yet.
We arrived about an hour after they opened and there were only 2 tables and a couple of seats at the bar that were occupied. Again, skeptical because I didn’t see a lot of people during brunch. We were seated and assigned Anthony as our waiter. He was patient with us and very attentive. When he took our order, he repeated it back to ensure accuracy…check! When our food came to the table, it was accurate just as I expected it would be…check!
We ordered the crab balls, fried oysters, house salad and the shrimp and grits.
The crab balls were seasoned to perfection and were hitting all the right notes! I usually love sharing food with my better half but today was not that day! Lol! This was truly the song that my mouth needed to hear…check!
The house salad was prepared with crisp and fresh vegetables. The purple onion gave it the right touch of sweetness and the oyster crackers were a nice addition. I love salad and someone in the kitchen knows how to make a dang good one…check!
The chorizo, shrimp and beer broth on top of the grits tasted great. The grits, however, were a fail…boooo! They could have been cooked a little longer. They were more on the stiffer side and “gritty”. They wouldn’t have been able to stand on their own if all else were taken away.
Since 95% of the food we ordered tasted great, I’m anxious to go back and try...
