My husband and I have been to the one in Portsmouth and loved it, so we were excited that they opened in Waverly. We ate inside a few months ago for the first time. Our food was great! The only complaint was the old building smell, but we got over that. Since eating inside we have ordered take out 4 times. The first time we got the wrong order, our chips were cold and they give you a very small half brown bag of chips. I paid for extra chips and that’s all I got. We know that mistakes can be made. This didn’t keep us from ordering again. The second time we had to go back twice because they forgot a meal, and then the meals we got were cold. We got a gift card for the trouble and used it for a third trip. Our food was not that hot and we were missing our tortillas and side of cheese rice, and Mexican pizza. The 4th time we had family home and placed a large to go order and it was all messed up. Missing sides most of our sides. My husband got the wrong thing, but ate it anyway. I even spoke to the gentleman and asked to please double check things bc we had a lot of trouble with ordering take out from them. I’m not sure if they are not staffed enough, or they’re rushing and therefore not paying attention to the orders. If you’re going to eat here I suggest dining in.
side note: they have great...
Read moreDisgusting! My boyfriend and I went here to enjoy a celebration dinner for my 1 year anniversary if living in Ohio. I've never eaten here before, normally we go to El Charros but I decided we would give them a try for once.
I was persuaded to go because online, their menu showed they had Horchatta which I was craving. We get seated and that's what I asked for. The guy wasn't sure what I was talking about so I just assumed they didn't have it and said it was fine, ordered a coke zero.
Then we ordered our meals and when it arrived it was disgusting. We both love chillie ranchos from El Charros so we ordered one each and they drowned it in hot sauce. There was no meat and it was clearly microwaved. I ordered a taco salad and it was flavorless. My boyfriend got the pick 2 with rice and beans, chillie reanno and chimmey changa. The chimmy was definitely one of those frozen ones from the grocery store and the rice was hard, clearly overly microwaved.
Our bill turned out to be over $50 and we are so confused how. Both our meals cost $13 each and we didn't order anything extra. There is no way 2 coke zeros cost $24+!
We were so disappointed... I highly recommend El Charros up the street! The food is fresh, the workers are attentive, and they are busy for a reason! We won't be...
Read moreWe'd started our evening at a different restaurant, walked out after being ignored, and came to Sonora Mexican Grill. I'm glad our circumstances led to the discovery of this place! Sonora was about twice as busy as the other place, but quite capably handled all the customers. It felt relaxed and friendly there. Our diet is vegetarian, and the waitress was very kind to spend a little time with us to help recommend some dishes, and certain items to leave off or substitute. The meal itself had enough to make leftovers for lunch the next day! The veggies were cooked perfectly, retaining their fresh colors and a little crunch. Bonus points for the various hot sauces at the table! Thanks for turning a crummy evening into...
