My friend and I use to always study here because it was fun, we loved the atmosphere, and she has Celiac Disease. She finally felt safe to enjoy a restaurant/cafe that claims to be safe for those with celiac disease with their dedicated gluten free kitchen and coffee beverages. This was our main spot to enjoy something not from home, and safe for her since it has been so tough for her to find safe eateries due to her Celiac Disease diagnosis.
One time she had symptoms of being glutened/cross contact after we had had pastries, and beverages here while studying but assumed it was a one off thing.
We met up here again a couple weeks ago(Around mid March 2025) and were studying again. We both ordered drinks, as well as pastries while we worked on school stuff. Around the time we were leaving my friend ordered a vanilla latte to go, and was sipping on it while we packed up to leave. As they were making her latte I noticed the employee making her drink was also eating pizza. As we were getting ready to leave I noticed that same employee open a pizza box from East Hill Pizza and pull out a slice of pizza, taking a bite of it before he continued working on beverages, without washing his hands. I then saw another employee coming out from the back kitchen eating a slice of pizza while wiping out the glass cups and plates without washing his hands, and the girl up front also eating pizza while making drinks on the latte machine and taking orders, without washing her hands. I did not mention this to my friend, because I did not think about it in the moment until later that night. She told me she was again having the same glutening/cross contact symptoms that she had the previous time we had studied, and consumed drinks and pastries at Jitterbug.
After she told me she was not feeling well again, it dawned on me, and I told her about what I saw earlier that day. She informed me that even the smallest amount of gluten can cause these symptoms she was experiencing which I did not know Celiac Disease was that severe.
I also noticed that the owners of Jitterbug were not there when this happened, and I'm pretty sure they probably, and hopefully would not be ok with their employees eat food that contains gluten while working, especially when they are doing things like making drinks and wiping cups/plates after handling food that contained gluten.
So suffice to say, my friend is really upset that literally the only safe place she felt comfortable going to is a no go for her anymore. She just doesn't feel safe anymore.
I wrote this review to help the owners realize that their employees may not be aware, or are not being safe, or conscience about making sure they are being proactive to keep their beverages they make, and the pastries they serve to their guest safe, especially guests with gluten intolerance/allergy and...
Read moreI found this spot after dropping someone off at the Pensacola airport, and I'm so glad that I did! The vibe is super chill and unique with a lot of seating options. I appreciate the one-of-a-kind items for sale in the little "store" area. I was helped by 2 different staff members, both of which were super friendly and patient as I took my time to debate which delicious coffee I wanted. As for coffee, I was impressed to find not one but TWO options with salt (if you've never had a salted coffee, you're missing out!). I picked the campfire, and while it could've been made hotter, it was absolutely delicious! I also ordered a crumb coffee cake that was to die for! There was a pleasant mix of people there and a lot of unique art and decor to peruse as we dined, which we all enjoyed. I highly recommend a visit, and I'll...
