I've lived in the Bloomingdale area for 4 years and have tried many of the area's local "favorite" pizza places and have found each one to be a let down in some way or another. Crust, quality, flavor, menu variety, online ordering/delivery... I continued to search for a place that could nail everything I value in a pizza place.
Tried Hoboken's on a whim, the pizza was delivered hot and fresh, and i could tell from the first bite that I finally found a pizza place in the area that knew how to bake a good pizza crust. It's crispy and chewy with that perfect amount of "tear" that makes a good crust. It wasn't too bready or cakey, and the toppings weren't piled on so thick that it would flop under the weight in a soggy mess when lifted.
The menu variety in their specialty pizzas is great, you have the staples like Neapolitan, four cheese, spinach artichoke, buffalo, and barbecue chicken, but then they have stuff you don't really find on the menus of nearby places. Prosciutto E Funghi, Shrimp Fra Diavolo, Francese, the Hoboken with sausage and besciamella cheese sauce, the Waterfront with meatball and ricotta. They even class up some of the common ones, like using gorgonzola for the buffalo chicken pie, or huli huli sauce on the hawaiian.
My one suggestion would be to add the option of "side of cheese sauce" to your online menu. It's delicious and tastes great with fries, dipping your crusts, and drizzled on top of many of your pies, but you have to call to order it.
If you want to try something truly different, order the Rocco specialty pie (the one with chicken fingers, french fries, and sweet and sour sauce) and a side of cheese sauce to drizzle over the top. I know it sounds disgusting, and it is, but the sweet and crunchy flavor combos incredibly well with the creamy, salty flavor of the cheese sauce. You won't find another pizza place around that has anything close to this...
Read moreI called at 1:31pm to place an order for pick up. I work fairly close to Hoboken pizza. I decided to order so my food could be ready by the time I go on lunch. While placing order, I expressed to the person that is on the phone that I wanted 2 slices of pizza that is by the window (meaning ready). He stated cheese as one of those options that are ready. I gladly agreed and added fried calamari to my pick up order. Then he asked how long will I be to pick up I stated 20 minutes. He goes perfect it will be ready by then. I did not arrive until 2:05pm, giving him an extra 15 minutes. Upon arrival, the pizza was being made from scratch, just put in oven, and calamari were just put in the fryer. He then tells me that its going to be ready in 2 minutes. I sit there until 2:25pm (my entire lunch time cause I only get 30 minutes). I finally get my food after being disappointed of the wait time. When I go to eat the 2 pizza slices, both slices are not cooked, the dough is completely raw on the bottom. The calamari had no taste to it. Food was awful!! All of this for its pricing was definitely NOT worth it. On top of it all, there was no one there ordering, dine in, nor picking up food. I'm not complaining because of the price, I'm more so frustrated because of the wait after you told me 20 minutes. For that, do not accept orders over the phone if you are not going to have it ready. I will NOT be ordering for this...
Read moreI have lived in the area for 7 years now, and I have become accustomed to the high quality that is fairly standard for North Jersey pizzerias. Apparently, Hoboken’s Pizzeria recently changed ownership, and the quality of food and service has gone down significantly.
I ordered several pies and appetizers for a work function, and I was told they would be ready in 35 minutes. I arrived at noon (40 minutes after my call), and I was told to wait 15 more minutes. This happened twice more, and I ultimately did not receive my lunch until a full hour after the time that I was told it would be ready. I had 8 coworkers waiting on me, and I was mortified. Worse still was that the food was dreadful. The specialty pies I ordered looked like they were hastily thrown together by someone who does not make pizza with any regularity. It was very disappointing.
As an aside, 5 would-be-customers walked in at different times during my wait in hopes of getting a slice or two for lunch. All walked out empty-handed after several minutes of either being completely ignored or after being told that slices were not available. It was most unusual for a pizzeria in this area.
I will say that the gentleman working was hustling, but the quality of the food was truly dreadful. Hoboken’s Pizzeria used to be a favorite spot for our office, but I will regrettably not...
