OK, so here’s the problem I have. The Perk’s Food is halfway decent. I’m not going to lie about that. There’s nothing spectacular or phenomenal about it, but the food is OK. But I have two major grapes about the restaurant and here they are.
My fiancé and I have been ordering takeout from the Perc for a long time. Frankly, in about a year time we spent probably over $1000 there which is literally insane. One of our favorites is the steak tacos. I’m not gonna lie, they’re quite good. Especially if you add some chipotle sauce and their homemade salsa is pretty good most of the time as well as long as it’s not too spicy from time to time.
Here’s the problem. In a small container and far from fill it from the top. They used to be $.50 for an extra little side cup of sauce. For whatever reason, probably because they know they could take advantage of their customers because they keep coming, especially people like us who order lots of sauce, they raised these small little cups filled may be halfway at best to $1.a cup. Now, I can understand given inflation that breathing it maybe $.60 or maybe even $.65… Maybe if they really want to go nuts, $.75 even though I think that’s a bit crazy too. But to raise it 100% of original cost is literally insane. Because when we order the steak tacos, we order about seven additional sauces Between salsa and chipotle. So instead of paying 3.50 for these extra sauces, They’re charging us $7.
Now the real crazy part is… We always order these steak tacos without cheese. But I don’t see any price reduction in the cost of the tacos because they don’t put cheese on them. But if I want extra sauce, I’m paying more and if I want an extra cheese, I’d pay more, but if I don’t want cheese, even though they’re saving products, I’m still paying the same price.
Last but not least, which is one of the most annoying parts… Anytime you call them around 4 PM or after, you have a very good chance of the machine picking up, saying that they are open but not doing takeout orders. So if I want to order takeout, I have to walk into the restaurant, go to the bar place my order and stand there and wait until they hand me my food and I pay for it. That typically takes about 20 minutes or so. But, if I ignore the machine and I press the button that allows me to talk to a person telling them that I’d like to place an order for takeout they tell me they won’t do it and then I have to come in. I tell them I’m literally right outside and it’s cold And I would really rather just take the order over so I don’t have to go out in the cold and in the restaurant for 20 minutes or come back out and wait in my car, and they still won’t do it. So don’t get on the phone and argue with you, but they won’t take your order.
Frankly, I’m really getting tired of prices increasing which I know we all are… But come on… A 100% increased for a little cup of sauce that’s not even filled halfway? If they filled it all the way I need to order two instead of five. But… They want to charge us more and give us less. And they don’t even wanna take a takeout order, more than half the time I have to literally go into the restaurant to place my order, still get charged the same large amounts of money for simple things and walk out.
I would actually tip the Takeout people if they actually didn’t rip off their customers. It just doesn’t make any sense. I’d like the food, some of the people are nice, but their prices, especially for some of the small things are astronomical.
And if you want my complete honest opinion… You can get better food up the street at a Country Place and it’s...
Read moreThis was our 1st visit to The Perk but not for lack of trying! It's about a 1/2 hour drive frome home and on several attempts has been packed with a longer wait than we wanted.
We made it there today for our Holiday Lunch for 2! We timed it later so we could order dinner entrees.
In any case, starting with our apps, Baked Perogies in Garlic Butter and Mozzarella and Spinach Artichoke Dip, we were very pleasantly surprised at the flavor and quality of the food.
We followed up with a very fresh salad and Onion Soup. Already feeling full our huge entrees arrived. My wife had the Maple Salmon which was plentiful and delicious not to mention cooked perfectly.
I went for the Chicken Parm Entree which was HUGE! I took a big part of it home. We also chose to take dessert home, Chocolate Cake and Apple Crumb Pie without the ice cream.
Having grown up in and spending my life in the food business, there was nothing less than top notch quality in our meal! Hot foods were served piping hot and presentation was simple but great. No foo foo garnishes here!!!!
Having come to eat at a time when shifts were changing, both our servers, Jill and Nancy were so pleasent and hospitable!
I took the time to speak with and thank Taylor, the manager on duty, for our great meal and how hospitable Everyone was!
As restaurant insider, the cohesive team, friendly and professional demeanor and the genuine feeling of being a guest was outstanding. It's obvious this team is well trained and are happy to be at work!
Thank you all for a wonderful dinner out! Not to be forgotten but special Kudos to the often forgotten kitchen team! To put it in kitchen terms, "You Rocked It, & Yes, I could Taste the Love"
Thanks again to all! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Read moreThis was first time I had been back to the Perk since the renovation was completed. I'm glad the new changes kept the Perk' s original atmosphere while providing a better flow through the spaces and more room for customer seating. We arrived around 4 pm on a Friday afternoon and were seated almost immediately at a table near, but not in front of, the bar area. I ordered the Crab Cake dinner, while my friends ordered the Perk's Roast Beef Sandwiches. The Crab cakes were very good, though being a seafood lover, I WISH they'd been much larger. Who needs sides when seafood is the main dish? I ordered mashed potatoes with gravy for one side, but was told the Perk does not serve gravy with mashed potatoes. I was a bit surprised also a bit disappointed as I love gravy with my mashed potatoes. The potatoes were ok. My friends raved about their giant roast beef sandwiches which were served with an au ju gravy for dipping. It was a very good meal enjoyed by all. Service was excellent. Order time to table delivery could not have been more than ten minutes, so the food was nice and hot and our waitress checked often to be sure we had what we needed and wanted. I'm glad we arrived at the Perk at 4 pm as it began to get busy. By the time we left (about 4:45 pm) people were standing in line waiting to get in. I HAVE only 2 complaints: the first being the no gravy issue; and the second being the discomfort of sitting on a low back, solid wood chair. Other than that, The Perk is a good place that...
