Garden Gate Cafe — Restaurant in Peru

A friend and I were in Peru this summer for the circus. We were referred here when we went to get tickets for the circus. It had good reviews, so we went. When we first walked in, we thought nah, this looks like a fast food place, paper and plastic, lousy food etc. But then we saw people were eatng off of real dishes, and the menu was interesting, so we gave it a try. Man, we STILL talk about those chicken pot pies and salads we had, and keep looking for an excuse to travel from Indy back to Peru! The food had a great flavor, and people are right when they talk about the salad- it was FRESH, not some old bagged lettuce leaves. It was fresh, cut up fine, moist, and the homemade dressing was fabulous! We wanted to stay long enough to go back and try the roast beef manhattans for dinner, but weren't able to. While in Peru, Indiana. My Young Beautiful Bride and I the Garden Gate Cafe, It was delightfully clean and festive looking.

Oddly enough, we had to look through the menu and order before taking our table. The food was delicious, I had the Meatloaf special and My Young Beautiful Bride had a salad with breadsticks.

After bringing us our food, we never saw our waiter again.

The dining area was open and in a large room, the restroom was absolutely Beautiful, very clean.

My Young Beautiful Bride has eaten here many times and she thinks that I should have an open mind, she really likes it, and she said that if I give it another chance, I will definitely like it to.

Traveling through on our way back to Midwest Illinois and found this place on Google. Very impressed and glad we stopped. The atmosphere is perfect, very chill and clean. The waitress was so friendly and did an excellent job. The bakery area is adorable and has it's own little atmosphere. We took some cupcakes and cookies to go. Food was really good. The piggystack is highly recommended! Backed beans and green beans too! I liked the green beans my husband ordered so much I ordered some to go as well. We left stuffed and with plenty to take on the road and the prices were excellent!! I wish I could pick this place up and locate it in...
