So there are only 2 tables for 6, because it is a narrow and long shaped interior. The two tables have regular seating while the rest of the tables for 4 have tall bar chairs. This would pose a problem for older dinners if the 2 tables in the rear were taken. You can make reservations. We had the fried Dumpling appetizer which was nice. Two of us had the Hibachi stir fry. One was shrimp the other chicken. Portions were generous and tasted good. There was a $2 up charge for fried rice, which I found annoying since that type of rice is not special in Asian style restaurants. It had no veggies in it, just soy sauce and rice, so why the up-charge? One person had the Udon noodle bowl. Flavor was good, portions were good except we expected more noodles, since we have had this type of dish elsewhere and here it was called an Udon bowl so, more noodles please. I had the Rainbow roll sushi which was categorized as a specialty roll. I was suspect of the price being inexpensive, but understood after receiving it. The rolls were small and the fish portion was very small and thin. I asked for what they call sushi sauce and spicy mayo on the side and for some Masego fish roe to be added on top. I received to little soy dipping bowls of sauces, about 2 Tbs of each and the fish roe was so scant, I asked where it was. Upcharged $4. I expected that with no complaint since I asked for add ons, but at least put enough Roe on...

This place is amazing. We sat at the bar and Sushi Chef Joe prepared our outstanding rolls, sushi and sashimi. My wife and I ate the Koi River Roll, Demon King Roll, Spider Roll, Yellow Tail Sashimi, and Crab Claw Sushi.

You won’t find a better authentic Japanese restaurant in the valley, in the suburbs or probably in Chicago. We have eaten sushi all over the US and even in Japan. Joe has it down. I also had HIBIKI Japanese Harmony Whisky, it has a honey like sweetness, candied orange peel, white chocolate and finishes with a Japanese oak. This Is a flavorful whisky without The Burn. I Highly Recommend It!

Thank you for such an amazing experience, Joe and Moi. Moi, our server was so sweet and friendly. We are going back soon. Thanks again for such a great experience and delicious food! Sushi Chef Joe is an expert Sushi Chef that teaches other sushi chefs. The seaweed he uses is top-notch as well the fresh fish. You won’t find better rolls, sushi, or sashimi anywhere in my humble opinion.

We have not tried the hibachi, we will next time, and I will update the review.

Update: We ate there again last night and had a hibachi combination. It's AWESOME, the steak was cooked perfectly, along with the chicken and shrimp. We also had a dragon roll, Phoenix roll, and Koi River Roll....

Hate to leave negative feedback because it's a nice restaurant with good food but the experience this weekend was not good.

Carryout orders apparently backed up and made them unable to serve sushi to dining in customers. No one greeted us at the door with this information, we were only told after our food was served. The manager never came by. We thankfully didn't want rolls this time because we had driven 30 minutes just to eat here. At the time of leaving there was still a wait with no eta for sushi, and they could not even fit in the 3 tuna sashimi we ordered which shouldn't take a minute to prepare.

If you don't have enough staff to fulfill orders you should not be seating new tables imo. I hope it was an aberration - and I could sympathize if they were unexpectedly short staffed or something. But we weren't given a reason so I have to give my opinion based on our experience. It makes us think twice about making the drive if we could not be able to order what we want.

The poke bowl is our favorite. I can't complain about any food we've eaten here, it's just a shame that they choose to prioritize online orders over dining...

You guys, this place was awesome! We were staying in the next town over at Grand Bear Resort (which is a really fun place to stay, btw) at Starved Rock State Park, and were looking for dinner for our family. It was after 8 and basically nothing was open. (We drove to a pub next to KOI because it was supposedly open, but it turned out the kitchen was closed.) KOI was next door, and we thought, "Sure, let's try it!" The food was fresh, the couple who owns it was so nice, my kids loved it, the portions were generous and prices were reasonable. The salmon poke bowl was great, and my teenager demolished the steak hibachi while my 7yo discovered that he loves seaweed salad. Everyone was so friendly, and the place was inviting and clean. Highly recommend if you find yourself in this part of the country!

I've eaten sashimi & sushi in Tokyo and this was absolutely divine! This is hands down better than anything I've had in Chicago or anywhere in the suburbs. Joe is a Master Sushi Chef who teaches Sushi Chefs...and you'll see why. They use the highest quality seaweed on their rolls which melts in your mouth and it doesn't overpower the fish. The rice is the perfect moisture content...oh I could just go and on!:) AND the prices are incredibly reasonable- so much so we ordered more than we planned, lol. We tried the Spider Roll, Demon King and Koi River rolls and Yellowtail sashimi. Oh, and their Miso soup is perfection! We also had the crab claw sushi which was Delicious!! We cannot wait to go back!!
