Great tasting pizza, filthy carpet, and very poor service. This is my wifes favorite pizza place. The service was poor. We should have left when the waitress told us she was to busy to take our drink order. I brought the family in for pizza on a nice quiet wednesday afternoon the place had maybe four tables with people in them and it had taken forever to get drinks. I am watching Homer's get thier food before us that came in way after us. We should have ordered by phone. what a shame we traveled 60 miles to get bad service and now as I look around after waiting for over an hour everyone is gone and heading out with their left overs. guess our business is not needed, what a shame this used to be a good place. We got to the restaurant at 1137 hrs. and it's 1400 hrs. and we are still waiting for are pizza. The manager came out and said blah, blah, and blah...SORRY. LOL that's service with a smile. Addendum: The Manager did come out and speak to us. He took it like a man but should have let us vent. I thought the older bearded gentleman with the LaGrotto t-shirt on who was wondering around the place especially behind the bar getting himself drinks was the guy in charge. Me and Johanna have been coming to this place before the young MANAGER was born.

Lou's LaGrotto is an institution. It's been in business for longer than I've been alive and when you eat there it is obvious why. Italian food is the fare. Pizza is the obvious choice. I ordered a Hawaiian ( I know, I know pineapple doesn't go on pizza) thin crust. The dough along with most of the bread seems to be made in house. The crust was thin and crisp with a great flavor. The toppings were what you would expect. The grated parm on the table was clearly grated in house. The day I went, I showed up with 25 people, I'm sure they weren't too excited but they accommodated us and served us in a timely manner. Great food, great service, good prices. If you're in the area, stop in and get a piece.

I drove an hour to come here because of it reputation and experience in the past. I ordered garlic nuggets and they arrived at the table and was hard as a rock had to peel them apart to eat. Ordered 2 large pizzas, the stuffed shrimp pasta and the chicken parmesean. The 2 pastas came with salads. The salad was brown with rotted lettuce, got the end of the tomato, and a cucumber that was so dried out it looked like a jalapeño. The 2 pizzas were deep dish sausage and deep dish chicken and tomato. The pizza was good. The pasta wasn't great. So if you choose to go here I would recommend pizza only. Good luck on getting any napkins or a server that cares. I will not be returning.

Lou’s LaGrotto 3001 5th St Peru IL 61354

I was born and raised on the south side Chicago and contrary to popular belief we never ate deep dish pizza. Maybe it’s a north side thing or a tourist thing. I don’t know and I’m not going to debate that here. But what Lou’s has is a unique variance that is not quite deep dish and not quite pan, it’s as Lou calls it “Deep Pan”. I am still relatively new to the area (3 years now) and I have heard people say that this is a pizza joint that people from the area have grown up with and have fond memories of. Just as I do, with my neighborhood pizza joint Falco’s on Archer and California in Chicago. So I can understand that. Lou’s has that old school pizza place feel and it looks and smells just as a pizza joint should.

It was a Saturday evening and the place was near capacity and we were lucky enough to get seated right away. Even if it was at a grotto table next to the bathrooms. They must have known it was me and said stick that jerk next to the toilets. But “NO” Lou I like your place and think that the Deep Pan is awesome. The crust is good and this pizza even came with sauce (no jabs intended). The sauce is flavorful and the pizza has ample toppings and it is cheesey to boot. We had a server that was pretty good she even served us our first slice. But here it comes….. I ordered a pitcher of beer and …. Nooo she didn’t pour my first glass. Those of you who follow my reviews may know I have recently commented on that. But other than that she was fine. One thing that really struck me was how inexpensive their prices are. I had a good time at Lou’s, cold beer, good pizza, my loved ones and now I have a fond memory as well.

According To The Big Food Jerk.

Perfect atmosphere, good service and a delicious unique pizza and I must mention again cheap prices. I definitely recommend Lou’s LaGrotto and hope to get there...

Every time I’ve been here it has been a huge disappointment with last Friday being the worst. Let’s just begin by saying if you are wanting to have a dinner where you can talk with your company, this is not the place. The restaurant is SO loud! You have to scream to talk to each other and you still have a hard time hearing. Last Friday we were sitting at our table in the middle of the room when a group got sat next to us. Only, the hostess didn’t turn the tables for the group to sit together instead had them sit at two tables which made them stand to talk to one another. This got extremely annoying when it has been 10 minutes and we are constantly getting bumped into and now we have to talk over them And not just the normal loud noise. We asked if we could move to the back room to which we were told no. What was annoying about that was there was a table clear in my view that was open and available but they told us there were no available tables back there. I understand if they were saving it for a large party but that table never was sat and was still open by the time we left. From that point on our waitress was down right rude to us. We had to ask for refills, she never checked on us, if she did she was straight to the point and acted as if she did not care to wait on us. We felt extremely unwelcome and uncomfortable. Food is only okay.

We love R Grottos in Ottawa and would say do not waste your time going to this one, drive to Ottawa it is a...

Tonight will be the last time we order. We ordered delivery for a couple large one topping pizzas and a beef sandwich n fries. The pizzas looked smaller than usual so I couldn't remember if I ordered med or large. We paid for med pizzas in a large box. Whatever...we'll deal with it.. Then My husband's beef had hard bread, no au jus and the fries were rock hard. So he calls and is told "I'll send you out a new sandwich at 1/2 price if you send that one back". What? That was bad business little boy. You called your customer, who just paid $48 (not including tip)for 2 pizzas & a sandwich a liar. And it's almost 8pm. Who wants to wait longer at that hour...Then when you realized you upset him, you offered 1/2 off the sandwich next time. There won't be a next time. We've ordered for years and didn't complain over little things because we understand it's a hard business and things aren't always perfect. But your ignorance just lost you a customer I don't know if there was an apology or not because my husband made the call. What I do know is he was upset when he hung up and he's not a jerk or looking for a freebie. He didn't enjoy the food we paid for and ordered and was treated poorly when he called about it. Your manager is rude and needs to learn how to treat people...
