Right in the middle of Petersburg on the corner of 9th and Sycamore, sits The Fish Hut. Maybe a 4 minute drive from I69, this location is pretty easy to find. Parking can be a bit tight. There is an entrance for Carry Out, and there is also indoor dining entrance. Also an option, patio dining.
I called in a carryout order and was told it would be ready at 3pm, I arrived right at 3pm, and it was ready, took 20 minutes to prepare the pizza.
Upon arrival the lot was clean, the restaurant was clean inside and out.
Pizza: I typically order a plain cheese pizza for my first time at a new location, in my opinion it allows me to truly taste the foundation for the pies with toppings. My cheese pizza Crust or dough was light and airy, the bottom of the pizza had no crisp to it, however the crust had plenty, overall the foundation was nice and chewy. The dough had nice flavor, very light flavor. The pizza sauce was a nice medium red with wonderful flavor, could even detect the tomatoe and I think even some seeds were visible. The cheese was greasy, and a bit high in salt, the flavor was good, even though a bit salty. This pizza was finished off with a green spice shaken onto the middle of it, and came with two pepperoncini on the side.
Pros: Pizza sauce was very good. Pizza had plenty of sauce on it. Dough had good flavor. Crust a nice crunch.
Cons: Bottom dough had no crisp to it. Cheese was a bit salty, and oily. Parking could be tight at times.
I highly recommend trying The Fish Huts pizza if you havent yet, I personally cannot wait to try one with more toppings now.
Update 2023: I've been on the hunt for the best fish sandwich. And I remember, Fish Hut! Stopped and got a double fish sandwich. The fish is Cod with its flaky white meat. Seems to be battered in a cornmeal type batter. Sandwich bun was a normal brioche type. Tarter sauce was all I got on it, as that's just as important to me as the fish in my opinion. All in all the meat was cooked well. The breading needed just a tad more salt. The tarter sauce was lacking slightly. Seems it was store bought. I like a bit more tart to my sauce. If looking for a good fish sandwich, this place has them. House made sauce would have made a big difference...
Read moreLocally owned, quick service, and a great tasting pizza are some of the best reasons I love to visit Fish Hut Pizza in Petersburg, IN. But... Getting pizza at a Fish place? I know it would be the last thing you would think of, and if you like fish, you will certainly enjoy it here. But I have to say - the pizza is my favorite at this fishy establishment.
Pricing isn't the cheapest, but not crazy either because you do pay a bit more, but you get a ton of toppings. One of the things I love about their "meaty" style pizzas (works, all meat, etc) and is their use of crumbled beef/sausage combo.
This pizza place also goes light on the sauce which to me just makes it a unique experience to try out if you have the opportunity. They have Great Harvest Bread Co. dessert options as well.
The biggest downside for me really is the breadsticks, I feel like I am better off just warming up some frozen ones from my freezer compared to what we had. They were really stiff, no sauce was offered, and just in general they felt like they came straight out of a freezer and had been sitting in a warmer to long.
They have indoor/outdoor seating and allow for pickup as well.
Half a point taken from the breadsticks, and another half point for price that I feel is a bit high for a small town, but I understand prices are going up everywhere as well.
It's just hard to justify spending $20 for a pizza, when you can get them for half that at other pizza places... I normally would deduct a whole point for the higher pricing, but the quality gives it at least half a point in its favor for sure.
The biggest letdown are the breadsticks for sure, they don't taste homemade and tasted freezer burnt and were very stiff, and no sauce was offered with them which we didn't know about until...
Read moreToday, August 3, is my birthday and my new thing for my birthday each year is to try a new restaurant. I decided on Fish Hut in Petersburgh, IN, this year after a friend recommended their strombolis. Wow! I've had a lot of different strombolis, but this one was probably one of the best I've ever had. My boyfriend had the fish and loved it. My Mom is picky and she had the stromboli and loved it. We will definitely be going back. Next time we're going to...
