Potros Mexican Restaurant & Pizza — Restaurant in Petersburg

I’m not one to leave reviews no matter how bad or good the quality/service is… I just rarely find it worth my time. That being said my expectations were blown away here. I haven’t seen many 4.9 star places on google and when we pulled up to the old Muncheese (former restaurant) parking lot I was a little skeptical, but wow, new owners have done a tremendous job renovating and making the place look clean and cozy.

Upon being greeted by the owner we received some of the most friendly and attentive service I’ve had in years (coming from a former waiter of 5 years). I’ve had a lot of crappy dining experiences in Petersburg and maybe that’s why I’m so impressed just from the service aspect alone.

So let’ uhhh, get to the food. I wish I had 10 stomachs and 3 livers to get through the comprehensive food and drink menu this place offers. Generally Mexican restaurants are very homogenous and one place is like the other (not hating) but I have to say this place stands out…there were some unique and delicious flavors to everything we ordered as well as a variety of other combinations that sounded spectacular but will have to try in the future.

We had chips, salsa, and queso all are musts at Mexican place and all were delicious. We had the quesobrilla as an app and it’s a must order (A+) and deserves bragging rights over competitors. From there, I had the Portos special and my wife the choripollio. Both, again, were top notch! We didn’t have a single complaint about the meal. The homemade hot sauce was great (and spicy!) as well and their pickle relish for the Birria was one of a kind, who knew cucumber and cilantro worked so well together (A+++). For drinks they have a good selection of Mexican draft beers and a marg and cocktail list that should satisfy anyone’s craving!

If you are looking for something new or just want to upgrade your Mexican food game I highly recommend giving this place a shot. I can say for sure we’ll be back soon! Thanks for opening here...

Review: Amazing Lunch at Potros Mexican Restaurant

I had an incredible lunch experience at Potros Mexican Restaurant! I went during their lunch special, and it was absolutely worth it. I chose the Pick Three option with rice, soft tacos, and quesadillas—everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The portions were just right, and the flavors were authentic and delicious.

To top it off, I had a small frozen strawberry margarita, and let me tell you—it was sooo good! The perfect blend of sweetness and tequila, super refreshing and just what I needed to complete my meal.

The service was great, the atmosphere was inviting, and the food exceeded my expectations. I’ll definitely be back! If you’re looking for a fantastic Mexican restaurant with great lunch specials, Potros is the place...

Stopped on the road for one night and chose this restaurant for dinner. What a find! The staff are polite and kind. I had fajitas which were as good as I ever had and my partner wasn't going to eat because he had leftover pizza at the hotel from last night. But he couldn't resist the cheese-stuffed jalapenos wrapped in bacon, which he said were WONDERFUL and not excessively spicy. No pizza tonight! He's full. I took home as much as I ate. Portions were generous. We couldn't believe we were the only customers in there the whole time. This place must be a well-kept secret.
