36 Soul Food — Restaurant in Virginia

Whew. Have you ever had food so good you didn’t want to wait to get home to eat it? That’s what happened here. Matter fact, the food was so good I’m sitting in my truck writing this review before I leave to go home.

I had a lot of food lol. I had the fried chicken dinner either Mac n cheese and collards / needless to say / I SMACKED that with some good old Texas Pete. I also had a slice of cornbread, which was super yummy, potato salad, sweet potato soufflé and a slice of sweet potato pie. The chicken was cooked to order and it was piping hot,. Seasoned well and cooked through.. I’m so full and my eyes are so heavy but my God I couldn’t leave without telling my yall that you need to go visit this establishment before the end of the weekend,

It’s a bit hard to find but when you see the jones sign, you’re in the right spot. Order ahead bc there is not a lot of seating! If you absolutely have to sit,. There is seating!

the owner (I think he’s the owner) was dope! He checked on me, offered me an ice cold water, tuned on some good music and let me dig in. I’ll be back next time I’m down this way.

This is truly a hidden gem in Petersburg. The location may throw many off but don't underestimate this place, the food is absolutely amazing. I got the smothered pork chop with onions and gravy with string beans and mac' n cheese ... F'ing WOW! The Bread pudding is so good you won't want to share. 2nd time going I got turkey legs, which I didn't know they were smothered, but it was a pleasant surprise with sweet potato soufflé and collard greens...another WOW! I almost forgot to mention it comes with your choice of cornbread or roll, water or sweet tea(get the sweet tea), and dessert for an extra dollar. You will enjoy yourself here,...

The order I requested:Baked chicken was not available so i settled for turkey wings, mac and cheese and collards. A side of meatloaf...the meats were reversed! #2 boyfriend ordered a fish sandwich ( 1 pc. of fish on plain bread?!) A CUP of catsup; 1 ginger ale and one slice of cake..total: 40.00? Why? The meatloaf made my stomach hurt, and the huge turkey wings; bland; as if they a. ran out of season or b. the person who cooked was mad!
