I eat here at least once a week, their ribs are...were the best until today! I had my caretaker go get my usual; a rib plate with potato salad and bake beans. When she arrived it was luke warm, but I proceeded to eat anyway. I bit into the ribs and I tasted a tangy taste, thought it may have been the sauce. I ate it without the sauce, same taste. I smelled my hands and it was a foul odor coming from them, which was odd considering I had just washed my hand. I went through the meat, all but 1 bone had a creamy white substance on it, nothing I have ever seen on a rib. I picked them up and they ALL had a foul smell. I gave it back to my caretaker and told her to take it back.
Once at the restaurant she was treated as if she didn't purchase that food no more than 10 mins prior to returning it. It took her 10 mins to get my money back, bc he had to "go look for the order in the computer". Add insult to injury, when he returned he acknowledged he remembered making the plate. Well, if he remember, why did she have to wait so long to get my money back?!? Overall, from what my caretaker has expressed, she felt somewhat humiliated. She was nothing but professional, bc she is on the job. She didn't bring attention to the situation in a packed restaurant, she was patient and kind, I wish it was given to...
Read moreI love this food, I have followed this business for 53 years; not a joke. They have had three different restaurants that I have know of and have purchased food from. However this latest restaurant located in Phenix city Alabama was a big disappointment not because the food wasn’t excellent it was. I know times are tough and it’s getting harder for a business to turn a profit. My only complaint is I spent 15$ for a meal and what I received was what looked like a child’s plate. Lots of bread but a very small portion of meat, the smallest portion of Brunswick stew I have ever seen and baked beans. I left hungry after eating. I’m not a huge man, 200lbs so If I leave hungry it’s pretty much a show stopper. Sad that after 53 years it’s over.
Update, I did return and what I found this time was totally different, man sized meal. I’m happy now and will come back. It’s my favorite BBQ...
Read moreFantastic, it's nice to see and taste the legacy of Mr Comer's bbq being prepared to such high standards. Our family has been customers since the start of business many moons ago. As a young lad I would get the 2$ plate way back in the 60's , back then all that was served was meat sauce bread , and a coke bottle out of the self serve soda pop machine. The original sauce was hot hot 🔥 (just like today) but now you request it as most people may not appreciate it like I do. So you would eat that bbq and drink that pop and hope no body would light a match in front of your mouth. You get used to the heat though, growing up on Chicken Comer's BbQ. Today's menu has a variety of choices and everything I have tried so far has been really good. So I tip my hat to the current employee's for good food, good service, a clean restaurant and looking after my mother...
