When the call for tacos arises from within, I answer! Stopped in on a random day during lunch time after a quick Google search for nearby tacos (the real stuff). *Beware, not many parking spaces & those that are available have specific days/times for street cleaning which means you’ll be asking for a ticket as you enjoy your meal. The items chosen were of course tacos, mine the pescatarian version. While the menu was long & very inclusive- I think it was a bit too much for me. I like a more simple style menu that includes appetizers and entrees in an easy to read format… Nonetheless, this did not take too much away from the dining experience for me because I already knew what I wanted. You’re pretty much automatically served chips and the request was made for a small guacamole to add. Unfortunately that requested was fulfilled with guacamole topped with cheese…Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking the forward thinking. But in these days & times I like the option of requesting dairy/toppings. There’s plenty of dietary restrictions which often turn people away from eating out, but I also think there’s plenty of room to a accommodate many of those restrictions simply by offering buildable dishes & allowing patrons to build them based on their preferences. I digress… The entrees that were ordered (birria & shrimp tacos) didn’t come out too quick, were hot with noticeable steam, & very colorful. Unfortunately, they lacked seasoning- salt specifically. I appreciated the freshness of the dish, ingredients, and presentation… but what is good food without seasoning? Is it still good?? I need my senses I awakened. Not only do I want to taste the food, I want to fully indulge in the experience. Everything else was great-our waitress was attentive and the atmosphere felt homey. I just needed the seasoning! 😩😩

Our best spot for tacos is in S. Philly. After hearing about this spot from locals, we decided to give them a try by ordering taco bistec for take out. After 6 mins, our order was ready. First impressions with the box in my hand was that these tacos could have felt heavier but let's give them a taste before we pass judgment. The tacos are served on 2 corn tortillas. Although they offered additional toppings like lettuce and tomatoes, we opted for just cilantro and onions...I'm a traditionalist. Tacos are served with some sliced radish, some lime wedges along with a verde and picante rioja salsa. Each taco is made on a bed of 2 corn tortillas. The steaks were sliced seasoned with salt and sauteed. If there were other spices use to season the steak, then it wasn't noticeable. The tortillas are what you would expect, commercially made, toasted, just that. The meat was a bit tough (maybe it was a chuck steak)but I would have preferred if they had either used more seasoning, an alternative cut, or a tenderizer in the marinade. On the other had, the sauces were decent. The verde had a nice tanginess as you would expect and the picante was spicy as expected but not overwhelming. Alternating between the 2 sauces gives excellent flavor contrast to the dish. Overall, I think I'll continue my search for the best taco in the NE, because this order didn't really hit the spot. So for $9 bucks and tax, you can give it a try and judge for yourself. I would pay more for a meatier taco or opt for an alternative at this price point.

5 stars If you’re looking for authentic Mexican street food in the heart of Olney’s 5th Street, Los Tacos Philly is an absolute must. From the moment you walk in, the warm service sets the tone for an unforgettable experience. The menu is packed with real-deal Mexican flavors, from the classics to bold regional specialties that are hard to find elsewhere in Philly. What really blew me away was the freshness of the guacamole—you can taste the quality in every bite. The aguas frescas are next-level refreshing, perfectly balanced and made fresh to order. The seafood selection is outstanding, especially the whole roasted fish with tamarind glaze—a flavor bomb that melts in your mouth. The seafood rice in adobo is rich, smoky, and deeply satisfying, while the authentic cucumber ceviche (Aguachile) made with the catch of the day is bright, zesty, and super fresh. This place captures the soul of a Mexico City mercado with every dish. Highly recommended for anyone craving a true taste of Mexico right here in Philly.
