My experience at Pleasure Platters has been great both times that I've been. I oridingally followed the owner on IG before she had a storefront and lamented the fact that I couldn't get my hands on a red bag back then due to my work schedule. But I've made it my business to get to their storefront and show my support. Not to mention that they've got the stamp of approval from one of my favorite Philly Foodies, JL Jupiter (JLJupiterTV on YouTube).
The owner, Kindle, is a sweetie who was there during both of my trips working the front. I've had the pleasure of speaking with her both times and watching her interact with her customers. She is truly a genuine person and I've seen her treat everyone that comes through the door as a friend regardless if it's their first time or if they're a regular.
I did place my orders online for pickup and I would definitely recommend it, they even have a code for first timers that gives you a discount on your meal. You can also opt into their text alerts and get notified of upcoming deals and specials.
My order was ready at my pickup time, literally being bagged when I walked in and was double checked to ensure my complete order was accounted for. My food was delicious and I have nary a complaint. My go to is the Dungeness clusters with the colossal shrimp (that are actually colossal) with extra broccoli and corn. I'm not a potato girl, so I usually request 'no potatoes' in the notes and they can usually accommodate my request. I wouldn't mind if they're not able to because they do get swamped and might not have the time for that kind of customization. Doesn't bother me either way.
Pleasure Platters works with A.N.Y.A.S. (Absolutely Not Your Average Sweets, @absolutelynot_ on IG) for some of the desserts they carry and let me tell you...that butter pecan cake slice is MY FAVORITE. I'm pretty much guaranteed to order that slice with my order going forward.
I would highly recommend giving Pleasure Platters a try, and consider picking up some of the seasoning for yourself to spice up some of your meals. Yup, they sell that too, in...
Read moreI'm full of racial pride & I live to support black business. Which is I find it deeply troubling when placing phone orders with the expectations of picking up your order upon arrival. Getting there only to find it isn't ready. Not because it's taking a little longer than normal but because the establishment took your order told you it would be ready in 15 minutes. When in fact they never started cooking because you'd rather pay in person with cash. When did this become an acceptable business practice? Even the Chinese food restaurants & pizza stores still honor phone orders. I get why some business owners do it. However, I'm from the old school and in my opinion it's not a good practice for a plethora of reasons. For one there's still people that carry & use cash. The other thing is people call in order most times when they're pressed for time. So if that's how your phone orders are processed why not tell that to the customer that in advance. Instead of having them sit there waiting for an order that takes no longer than 10 to prepare. When they've actually called it in 20 minutes before. I'm sure when Patty Jackson calls for food this isn't her experience. How about treating & respecting all customers equally.
I will say everyone was extremely nice. But calling people pet names isn't the key to running a successful business. In my opinion, the bar for quality food & service in Philly has been extremely low for some time now. Most people wouldn't know good food & service if it slapped them in the face. I'll close with this. Don't ask me to support a business when the business doesn't trust me enough to...
Read moreI am pregnant and currently was craving seafood. Unfortunately for some establishments im very picky on how my seafood is cleaned and seasoned. When I researched this establishment both those factors were well addressed so I ordered online for pick up. I absolutely was not disappointed. I read the comments prior to ordering and I feel the expectation of fast food for the convenience is misunderstood. It's not fast food and the food is good so anticipate some wait or order ahead for an estimated pick up time as I did. Another plus is that my feet did not swell after all I consumed. What that means is the flavors were balanced not over compensating with salt and preservatives. I hate drenched seafood with salt and oldbay then they call it well seasoned. This however had minced garlic and butter mixed with spices. My crab meat wasn't like muttin which means it wasn't over cooked or old reheated steamed crab legs. My vegetables were steamed not soggy or overcooked and the kids loved it. My husband picked up the order which included multiple things that were devoured by my 4kids ages ranging 3-14. We will...
