If you're tired of the wait at the Popeyes six blocks away down Woodland Ave, or the McDonalds right across and down the street, you might these franchise a pleasant alternative. I tried their burger and was surprised at how delicious it was. They are "halal", so there's some standard of quality in the food prep. They say their beef is never frozen and is made to order. What I'm really impressed with is the fried chicken. You know how you sometimes end up getting chicken wings from the dreary corner Chinese food spot? No more! If you're a veteran of the Popeyes/KFC debate, this Texas brand deserves a try. (Don't even mention Church's - my goodness, what has happened to an old favorite? )
The Woodland Ave spot above 58th street is a grungy location, and the drive thru is pretty dark and isolated at night. But in two years of about twice a month patronage (actually more than that because the regular staffer knows my order before I give it now!) I have not been disappointed. They finally modified their 3 for $3 dark meat special to a 4 for 4, which is still three dark pieces, two drumsticks and a thigh (ask for two thighs) and the fourth item is a biscuit that is surprisingly good. They also have a 5 for $5 deal that knocks down the piece count to two, adding fries, a cookie and a modest sized soda. Both deals are the best in fast food, hands down! No coupons, no phone app needed. By the way, the fries are also decent - true shoestrings that are far more golden fried than the clown's across the street. They might even be a tad seasoned. Plenty of other menu items, notable among them is that they have full size ears of corn. Any pricing I've mentioned is as of late March 2022. okay that's it, they aren't paying me for this...
Read moreWhoever was frying the chicken at night on 6/3 (morning of 6/4) deserves a raise. I got a basic chicken sandwich and a Good Burger™️. Superbly fried thick piece of chicken, bun maintains integrity and produce is at a freshness considered standard for local grocery stores. It’s not super flavorful but it’s not supposed to be as it’s a basic chicken sandwich. It does it’s job nearly perfectly and I ate it all quickly.
The Good Burger was delicious as well and the only upgrade I could think of would be to toast the bun but I understand this is a stylistic choice and Tex’s may not be that kind of establishment. This burger could have been a tad less tangy - this made me slow down and not finish the whole burger right away.
Now the reason I’m giving this four stars is the fries being cold. I know it’s hard to keep food warm in delivery but when the other food was quite warm and the fries were completely cold, that’s more of a red flag worth mentioning to me. Either they need to work on cooking the fries less in advance or work on the packaging.
They are generous with giving a 20 Oz bottle of Seagram’s ginger ale when you choose “ginger ale” as the beverage in your combo. Most places tend to give...
Read moreI found this spot about 3 months ago just passing by they have a 3pc chicken for $3 so it said you can't get that at a better price. I love spicy chicken so does my wife. We ordered the 3pc spicy, thigh drum and wing is how it comes. If you eat Popeye's Chicken, you are being robbed. Since we love spicy chicken this was the best spicy chicken since Churches Chicken. But today I went and ordered 3 of the 3pc chicken, two mash potatoes and a order of fries, the cashier only gave me two of the 3pc chicken meals. I called the store about 5 times after I realized I got home and didn't have the third chicken meal. It took me the 5th call before they answered the phone. I explained to a man that answered the phone what happened. He said okay come back and I will give you the food, but I live at least 4 miles from the place. I told him I couldn't make that long City ride again I live across town. Find out the whole time he telling me stuff, but de couldn't understand most of what I was saying to him had to keep repeating myself. Hope I can get my meal the next time I go up that way. Over all food is delicious and worth it. This was my first problem out of 5 trips...
