I hate giving bad ratings to my people but my rating is based on comparison. What I mean, is that I am comparing them to other Jamaican restaurants that I have been to around the valley in the last couple of years. Now, I must say, they have one of the more better looking establishments out of all the spots I've been to. They even have a more extensive menu than all the others I've been to. But when it comes to food, I think its an epic fail!!! That is, in comparison to some of the other jamaican spots I've been too. First, of all, they give you THEE smallest portions out of every other restaurant that I've been to in the valley! Super tiny portioned trays. It barely can hold a decent size of Oxtails and Peas and Rice or Jerk Chicken and Peas and Rice. Then you can have two sides which they are really charging for because why else would the tray of food be so expensive? So you get practically no rice in your main order of oxtails and rice, or whatever your buying. Then your getting a small side order of whatever else you desire (like maybe more rice to cover the loss of rice from the main meal). Theres almost no peas in the side order of peas in rice, as if there is two different pots of rice they serve you from.. Then the rice lacks flavor and it was on the mushy side. The black cake was poorly made, the coconut rum cake was good. The jerk chicken was good but their cheap with the sauce and thats with the oxtails and rice too, so I ordered more sauce, still was a tiny bit. The Ginger pineapple drink was alright but they use white bleached sugar instead of brown raw pure cane granulated sugar. Their location makes me feel safer than most other jamaican restaurants I've been to but if I pay nearly $80.00 for two trays of food, juice drinks and two cakes then lea e a $10 tip and I did a take out order, not even a dine in order. Then at least let the food be a bigger portion. But get rich and make your profit but I dont think I'll be going back. I will stick to the other two Jamaican spots where I get plenty of food for my money. and it taste really good too. Dominican spot never skips a beat either, and neither does the soulfood spot in downtown Phoenix. Lastly, thicken up that oxtail gravy, its to watery. - Honorable...
Read moreExtremely upset... Me and my spouse was not greeted at the door and a waitress did not come to my table until 10 minutes after we sat ourselved. Only 3 other people were in the restaurant eating upon our arrivaland no others came in during our experience. So it was not busy at all. They literally watched us walk from the door to our table and said nothing. If i was by myself i would've walked back out after 2 minutes of waiting.
I ordered the oxtails and it was extremely cold (so was the rice). I had to send it back bc I am pregnant and did not want to risk getting sick.(Also it told me they don't make the food fresh daily and this is disappointing.) I told my waitress and I was hoping to get a new batch of oxtails warmed. Other side dishes was terrible salt/ flavor was not close to authentic as well. My husband order the jerk chicken. He wasn't impressed either. Coconut bread was brutal to swallow. 😳
Now another woman from the kitchen with an upset face locks eyes with me like I bothered her 🥴😐 & comes to give me my plate. The oxtails was still cold except for now all other sides were now piping hot. Not to mention the oxtails cost $24.99 and they only give you a half a cup of oxtails. We all know oxtails are more bone than meat so it was excessively over priced. I was essentially paying for my side and not the main course. So yes I'm super upset.
No communication of apology or explanation was granted either nor was there a refund. I love to support my community but when this happens I regret my choice to go & dine with them. I'll be telling my family/ friends to try other places.
One star is because I believe this place should be a bar bc they put more...
Read moreI wanted me and my man to try oxtail for the first time ever, I'm cautious and stick to what I know so I chose the jerk chicken wings and let him order the oxtail plate so we can get the taste of both. We both ordered drinks as well and one love was great while the Bob Marley was weak and didn't come with strawberry like it looks like on the menu(plus the jerk chicken wings I was told that they just do that for the menu pics to look fancy and that is not what comes out which was bummer; They should just take a pic of the wings as they serve them) the oxtail was great as the wings were cold when brought to me and hard to bite into. I had to fight to eat it if that makes sense, felt like they weren't made fresh but on standby. We had asked about the Saturday rum and brunch special and were told nothing is special about it we just call it that. (I am not kidding you, for our first time there we were told this unwelcoming thing) then as I was enjoying finishing our meal the young man proceeded to yell across the room while another couple was dining "ARE YOU DRINKING THE OXTAIL GRAVY?" as if he never seen it a day in his life of working there. I could have gave a ignorant reply like this was the only thing good you served so yeah. But I just brushed it off and my ma paid the tab and we finished what was left of the drinks on the bee ridden patio and went home. Usually I tip and my man pays but he didn't deserve any nor who made those wings or Mac and cheese and rice ad peas. Hopefully the next Caribbean joint won't be as bad and unwelcoming as this one. I gave two stars because only thing good was...
