My first experience getting pho by myself, and only my 2nd time ever -- which the first was on a date many years ago and he ordered for me...so needless to say, I was fairly clueless minus the info I had gathered from reviews on what to order. I got the shrimp and beef spring rolls and then the P12 (seafood combo, beef broth pho). Thankfully, I was able to quickly Google how to eat the spring rolls as they were so large I didn't know if I was supposed to eat them by hand hahaha...but it was a success! And the peanut dipping sauce made it excellent. The food overall was great for proportion to cost -- my meal, with the appetizer and an iced Thai tea included, came to only 19 dollars and some change...with a large container of leftover pho to take home.
My only drawback with the food lies heavily on my own fault -- I did not know the broth was so...cilantro-y lol....and I am NOT a cilantro fan at all. I added some hoisin and fish sauce (per recommendations from reviews) and that helped to take the edge off the strong cilantro flavor...and the fresh basil leaves I sprinkled also was a welcome distraction. I am sure, for others who are more keen on cilantro, the meal would have been superb...but I can't fault the restaurant for my own oversight as to the base ingredients in the broth, that I should have already known about before ordering.
The service was great and the staff was very friendly... I did not have a wait and overall my experience took as long as I wanted, or it could have been a short stop if I had preferred-- they let you decide and ensure speedy service.
The only other drawback I discovered was the restroom (which I'm big on cleanliness in), as it was a single unit, unisex, with no paper towels (only a hand drier), and the overall appearance was slightly dingy... For a restaurant that serves several "finger food" style options, it is hard for me to not have paper towels to grab the door handle on my way out and to turn off the sink. If I'm going to touch my food, Id like to know my hands are as clean as possible after the restroom!
But, overall, I would definitely return and gladly try out other menu options now that I'm not a complete newbie :)...
Read moreWhere do I start with my experience today. Let me start by saying I usually only leave reviews if I get really bad service and only when I feel like I'm going to explode. So first off, I went into Sung Lynn when they opened at 10:00 am. I ordered spring rolls (a2), Sung Lynn special (b1), and an iced coffee. Came out to 19 something and I left a 4 dollar tip. I usually come here once or twice a month and never had an issues. 30 minutes of waiting (Im usually in there not longer than 15) and I barely got my coffee in which the guy gave it to me by shaking the cup in my face. Another 5 minutes I start seeing other people who came in after me getting serve. Now I'm visibly frustrated because I'm wondering if I must of said something offensive to the guy taking my order but considering the only exchange of words we had was my order this doesn't seem likely. When I finally get my order I get Pho. I didnt order the P1 but the B1 but whatever I eat Pho too and I just didnt feel like waiting another 30 minutes for them to correct it. Then as I'm leaving the guy stops me because he put something in my bag that wasnt even suppose to go with my food. The spring rolls tasted bitter, I haven't had the Pho yet but I'm not going to expect it to be as good as it usually is. I moved to other side of town but figured since I'm dropping off my son at school, I would stop by here for lunch before work. I won't say I'll never come back but this will no longer be my go to...
Read moreBeen coming here for 2 years. Hands down the best pho in the Phoenix area! They have all the fix-ins you could ask for (chili oil is a must if you want your pho to be taken seriously). Honestly haven't had anything but the pho, but that's really their specialty and it shows. I've tried the eggrolls and their take on a Bahn mi, and they're good enough, but not what you should come here for. A large bowl of pho will run you around $16, or $13 for regular, which is a great price considering it's about 2 meals worth of soup. The dining area is small and a bit intimate, so you may have to wait for a table to open up, or order to-go, but I've never had a problem getting a seat. Servers are sweet and very polite, and the food always comes out in a reasonable time. I love getting the fresh coconut water and they're even serving boba now, though it is a bit pricey at $7, but from what I've seen it's worth it! For a large bowl of pho and a drink, it's about $20-25. Will be recommending this place for as long as I can!
