I was surprised to find that the below reviews were quite accurate. My boyfriend and I tried out Fatty's with another couple who had already been several times before. We arrived around 5:00 before the crowd and sat in the bar area. We were impressed with the decor and were excited to learn that they served draft beer for $1.50 during happy hour (or until 6). Our first two rounds came quickly. Unfortunately, things went a little down hill after that.
The crowd picked up and we didn't see much out of our waitress. She had tables all over the restaurant. Either they are understaffed or management has not implemented a proper table assignment for wait staff. My boyfriend actually left the table to find her and place an order for another round before happy hour ended. When she came back with the drinks, we asked to place our order. The food was great quality and came out within a reasonable time. However, we had to send back two cups of gumbo to be reheated. We would have ordered more, but we couldn't ever get the waitress's attention. When she brought our bill, we noticed that the drinks were priced incorrectly.
We brought it to her attention, and she sent the manager or owner (not sure which) over. Although he was friendly, he did not conduct himself very professionally. He questioned our honesty regarding when our drink orders had been placed, which to be perfectly honest, ticked me off. He did correct the mistake, and when he returned my friend calmly (luckily I was not the one doing the talking) explained the situation to him. He regressed on his earlier position. We enjoyed the food, but the service needs to be addressed. It is not the waitress's fault but rather the management's for not assigning sections or seating properly. Further, the manager or owner needs rethink the way he interacts with customers who are making legitimate complaints. Not everyone is attempting to swindle restaurants, and one can not approach customer service with that mindset. I only made this review in hopes that management will correct these issues, as I would like to see local restaurants in...
Read moreThings have definitely changed. The portion sizes are smaller compared to what it was or maybe it was just for me. I ordered the crab claws. It's supposed to feed 3 people, as it had in the past, but this time I got about 10 claws for $17. In the past we got about 30 claws for $17. Also in the past the crabclaws came in a bowl but this time came on a plate that should be used to bring out extra lemons are sauce. I asked the manager and she said they were making changes and the portions were too big so they had to put them to the correct size and that it's an appetizer not a meal. That should have been my que to leave. So that means if 3 people were eating, we each would get 3 claws each for $17, make it make since. Most of the staff hung around the bar. My waitress was fairly new but it's apparent she is not being trained or it could just be me again. When I sat down she asked if I was ready to order and asked to look at the menu 1st. She didn't take drink order or anything. After I decided, she was talking at the bar for 10 mins that asked a different waitress the questions I needed as well as for my drink. When my waitress finally came she asked are you ready, I said yes and she said well what do you want! That blew me. They brought out my food with the appetizer together, pointless. I ate the food even though there were 6 shrimp instead of 12 and 2 pieces of fish which was actually 1 piece cut in half. I also had the flag down another waitress for a drink. She told my waitress and after she brought it a different waitress came back and took the drink stating there was bought in it and brought another one even though the 1st one was sweet. I paid attention to all the other guest and their portion sizes and complete difference. I drove from Louisiana to go to this location but never again. If I do visit fatty's again, I'll try the...
Read moreConsistently Inconsistent! What can I say about Fatty's in Picayune? Mixed reviews is the answer! Been dining here for 7+ years now, and the service is hit or miss. Absolutely no teamwork among the dining room staff. If your water is low, only your server is going to fill it. If you need anything you have to ask for it; extra napkins, lemons, cocktail sauce, remoulade sauce, oh, and side plates when sharing an appetizer. No sight of an effective dining room manager. Seems the bartender is the only front of house staff member that seems to help out the diners, but only on occasion. A most recent trip we were behind a family of four that got sat before us. We got seated immediately after the family, and our server approached us first, we got our drinks and orders before the family saw a server. It took more than the usual time to get our onion rings (which were extra crispy this time), and I had to ask for side plates, again!!!! The family next to us still had not gotten their drinks! Ugh! I felt bad for them, but we've been in the same situation several times.
The food is usually good, the onion rings are the best around on must occasions. Don't forget to ask for extra remoulade sauce while ordering the onion rings.
We usually order the 5-lb. boiled crawfish which usually arrives with a corn cobette and a few red potatoes. If your lucky you might get a few garlic pods, onions and celery in the platter. I'm still guessing if I'm really getting a full 5-lbs, the tray always seems light lately. I may bring my food scale with me next time. Sometimes the crawfish are expertly seasoned, one occasion they were over salted and over seasoned.
The drinks are fairly good, but seem a bit overpriced for the portion size.
If you pay with a credit card they add an up-charge fee, like 3%. Bring cash if you want to save a few $$$.
