Olguita's Cocina — Restaurant in Pico Rivera

Have lived in the area for years have always passed by this place and wanted to try it. Finally got to recently, all I can say is what took me so long. There are some places you go to and you come out saying this was the first time and last time. This is DEFINITELY NOT one of those places. I ordered the hobo omelette with o' brian potatoes. My thing with places I try for the first time, I'll order something basic, because if you can't cook something simple I won't be coming back. Omelette was cooked right and the O' Brian potatoes were nice and crispy. My wife is more adventurous than I, and ordered the Chili Colorado con huevos, let me tell you I tried it and that thing was delicious, meat was nice and tender and eggs were cooked perfectly. My wife and I decided to finish it off with a churro waffle and that was also very good. Needless to say we'll be back to try some of the other items on the menu, and if they're anything like what we had today. We will not be disappointed. I love supporting small businesses and this is one that is worth it, I'm just disappointed in myself for waiting so long to try it. Also the waitress Teri was excellent...

Pozole soup was bland and watery. It seemed like it was from a can. The meat was bland and dry. The veggies it came with looked old and wilted. I added salt and the wilted vegetables anyway cause I don't like wasting food and tried to eat it but couldn't finish. Ordered liver and onions. First bite I took the meat was sour. Definitely not edible. I returned it. Waitres said cause it was frozen! They didn't charge for it which was nice but jeebus is that freaky eating sour meat. I had to spit it out. We got some biscuits and gravy. They were good. Side salad had pickles in it?? It was okay. And before they took my liver and onions plate i was enjoying the mashed potatoes. It also came with mixed vegetables probably from a can or frozen bag. Also bland. The problem was food was expensive for not good quality which is messed up. For a little cereal bowl of pozole was 9 dollars. Not worth it. I'll pay 9 dollars for...

Well the one thing that this place has going for it. Is it staff. They are really great that makes this place so enjoyable. I used to order their biscuits and gravy all the time. Because as a little kid. I love loved the biscuits and gravy. But now they changed the recipe and it wasn't for the good. It's such a shame because that's what was pulling me to go there the biscuits and gravy. The breakfast is are good. But they're just average like every other restaurant. It was a biscuits and gravy that brought me back. And now that they don't make it with the original recipe. I can go anywhere and have an average breakfast. I hope this restaurant can find its way back to the original recipe of their biscuits and gravy. Because when they do...
