I have been looking forward to trying this restaurant for a while. Love that it is LGBTQ owned and really wanted to love it. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. The people ordering before us ordered a modified chefs burger, asking for no garlic on their fries. Sounded good, so husband and I got the chefs burger to split and it came with garlic fries, and we also got fountain soda, and water. When our food came, it was brought by the person we ordered from, I noticed the fries looked like typical fries, and I asked “are these the garlic fries” and she hesitated, seeming to make a decision, then they replied yes. It was as if she was contemplating if she should tell me they weren’t the correct fries. I tried a few fries, and asked another waitress, “is this burger supposed to come with garlic fries?” She said she thinks so, and I asked “if this was how the garlic fries supposed to look usually” and she said she didn’t know. The fries were plan as day, honestly no seasoning at all, not even salt. Seemed like the frozen fries I get at Lowe’s across the street. The burger patties looked as though they were frozen burger patties. They have in the description it’s the best burger in Pittsboro, and honestly, I would have rather had a Big Mac, at least that would have stayed together. The burger was a sloppy mess, falling apart, with very little flavor. To be honest there are also multiple other local restaurants I’d rather get a burger. Especially when the bill was over $25 -_-
I sincerely have been looking forward to trying this restaurant for over a year, and I want to think it was a fluke but I don’t think I could convince my husband to go back and try it again to...
Read moreMy husband also reviewed this place recently, but I wanted to chime in, too!! I lovvvvve this restaurant SO much. The food is INCREDIBLE, and I'm so happy to have a new, high-quality restaurant to go to in Pittsboro. We really needed it!
I'm going to be hosting a retreat in the Fall for photographers from out-of-town, and I'm definitely going to be having The Root Cellar cater at least one of our meals!
The owners are so nice and the staff is friendly. They're all very transparent that they're still training new folks and working out any flaws in their process since they're brand new, but I really don't mind at all! And they don't mind our kids running all over the place, which is always a plus in my book.
As a vegetarian, there are LOTS of options, which is so appreciated since so many other local restaurants really leave us out of their menu planning! My favorite so far as been the Wild Mushroom Wrap!! Ooh the breakfast burrito is incredible, too. And their take-home baked goods! Really just ALL of it. :) Ahh and I can't wait to try one of those amazing looking gigantic cakes in their case up front!
Not to mention all of the incredible eclectic vintage decor, which just makes it an incredibly fun place to get together and enjoy looking at all of the unique pieces. You can tell they really put a lot of thought into the space. I'm reallllly looking forward to warmer weather when the big doors to the patio will be open AND the bottle shop next door will be open! Craft beer next door plus amazing food from The Root Cellar is going to surely be one of my new favorite hangout spots on the weekend.
Keep it...
Read moreWhere to start; Serve yourself (get your own cup, teabag, and hot water, silverware, napkins, etc. and bus your own table), With the audacity to pay first, and have a gratuity starting at 18% ending at 22% (before or after tax, you tell me). NO itemized receipt before you pay. Oh, but a runner will bring your food to the table. . Staff; Lackluster would be overstatement. Cashier did not ask if it was our first time, or if we had any questions, or if we wanted a side with our tiny sandwiches. Manager had zero clue about the issue that arose, runner made an excuse that it was the kitchens fault, manager asked if we wanted another sandwich made, but seeing that the place was not busy at all and it took over 10 min to get the first TWO mistakes out of three sandwiches, we declined. The manager struggled with figuring out what the order number was, and was asking us? (seeing as it is serve yourself, we were expecting him to tip us at this point). We had given him one of the sandwiches back (so what the product was, was known) and we only asked for ONE of the mistakes to be taken off the bill. Which he finally accomplished and meagerly apologized. . Prices; Airport Prices, Tiny Sandwiches, side extra cost. Looking at $9 for a sandwich, plus drink , plus side , thus $13-$15 for a basic lunch. Serving yourself and expected to tip. ROFL. . Food; Quality above a Fast Food, but far below par for the price point. Size of portions tiny, far below par for the...
