Breakfast at Shelly's — Restaurant in Pittsburgh

Stopped by Breakfast at Shelly's (heretofore referred to as just "Shelly's") because we were trying out a new place. Also we don't get to Allentown enough, so it all worked out.

Walking into Shelly's it seemed like a small place, and half of it was empty. Like physically - not that there weren't customers but there weren't tables! There's just a 20 foot entry area where maybe tables would go? Possibly a Covid thing?

At any rate, don't let it fool you, just keep waking until you hit the seating area. You'll want to, because it's a great breakfast spot.

Had some pancakes, both the blueberry as well as the peanut butter and chocolate chip. Also got a side of eggs and bacon (my breakfast joint litmus test) and everything was terrific.

The blueberries were sweet and tart and really complimented the pancakes.

The peanut butter and chocolate chip pancakes were exactly what an 11 year old me would dream about. It was like Resses' Pancakes. Awesome.

Good coffee, nice crisp bacon and they know how to make scrambled eggs. Totally...

The place has a nice feel, open and clean. The wait staff is pleasant but inexperienced yet you are greeted. Upon placing my order for takeout I returned for pickup only to find out they only except CASH. That's fine but why not tell me? I left then came back and noticed they had an ATM Inside, again why not tell me? I returned with from the ATM with a 20 for a meal for two and was shown my bill which was higher. That's fine but Why not charge me before I left or ask if I've ever been here before or present my bill before sending me out for cash.

Ask questions. Avoid my mistakes and maybe you'd be fine.

On to the food. The French toast: was bread and cinnamon toasted. Not dipped or socked no egg taste present. The potato's were good except I'm a vegetarian and the potato's were cooked on the same grill as meat so it had a "sausage after" . The sunnyside up eggs were great' they even survived a ride home...

I have never in my life experienced such terrible customer service. I called at least 10 times to place an order for pickup before anyone answered. Once I finally got an employee on the line I was put "on hold", which was just the phone off the hook and I could hear everything they were saying. Laughing, swearing, not working. I was on hold for 25 minutes. I proceeded to just go to the restaurant, expecting it to be busy. There were less than 6 customers. When I confronted the server behind the counter and showed that I was, in fact, still on hold. The server was absolutely unapologetic, and simply answer with "so?" I told her that it was all very unprofessional, and bad service. She said "well do you still want to place an order or not?" Well, after nearly an hour of attempting to acquire so lme breakfast, they got my first and last order...
