I wasn't very impressed by Brusters. This is not to say the quality was bad, but simply it just didn't stand out in any way. The ice cream tasted only slightly better than what you could buy at the grocery store for a much cheaper price. I decided to try out their milkshakes and got a classic Oreo shake, small size.
The biggest benefit to Brusters is that their portions are quite good. For a small, this is more than enough. And, the prices are too bad either. A small shake is around $6.25. My main issue is that this shake was mostly flavorless. It wasn't sweet, or at least not in the way other shakes are.
It was very basic, and just didn't impress me in any way. The Oreo chunks were somewhat clumped together and almost had a waxy consistency that was unpleasant. The vanilla itself was fine.
All in all, if I come another time, I'll try one of the more unique flavors they offer, such as peach melba, sea salt caramel toffee, cheesecake, cold brew brownie, or something along those lines. I regret not trying one of them on this last visit instead...
Read moreI am a tough reviewer. I am hard to impress not only with ice cream, but with food in general.
This is some of the finest hard ice cream, both full dairy and sorbet, that I have ever had. Don't keep it in the house; it's a treat meant to be enjoyed rarely, and this is where to go for hard ice cream. Open and shut. Nice little area to eat it outside in squirrel hill (more towards Homestead).
I have had other flavors at other locations, and they hit as hard. Last time I went, I tried the Mango Dragonfurit sorbet, and it was delightful. Light, crisp, refreshing and fruity. The best sortbet I have had outside of a 5 star restaurant.
Best hard (no comment on soft) ice cream in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, stands up to the Greats like Stuart's, better than Ben & Jerries (I lived in Vermont for 17 years I know what I'm talking about), Hagen-Daz etc.
Plus it's always nice to have friendly staff that let you try......
Read moreI used to like coming here... not no more... when i order i tell them no whip cream. There was whip cream on my ice cream a couple days ago...went back to the window i was told to scrape it off myself.. ive had to repeat myself multiple times only for them to still mess up the order. The sundaes are supposed to have 3 scoops. No i got one scoop. Another time they gave me my sundae in a cup. Went back to the window and told them i usually get my sundaes in a plastic bowl. The girl said it varies. What do u mean it varies? The pic shows a plastic bowl. Im convinced they dont know what they are doing. A bunch of kids running the place. I repeated my order multiple times. Explained what i wanted they had to call someone else to the register. Ill take an extra 15 mins and go to...
