Going to this cafe was definitely a trip. Located in the Polish Hill neighbourhood, Itâs a one off cafe surrounded by lot of residential buildings. I had been meaning to go here for a long time, but then the lack of public transport options from my home made it a deterrent. When I arrived, I was the only one in the cafe, but it filled up pretty quickly. I could sense that this was a neighbourhood cafe because almost everybody who came in made conversations with the owners and seemed to know them. The interior is rather simple and scrappy. They were room at the back if you want a little bit of peace and quiet, but I prefer to sit in the main area because I was working and I needed a power outlet and they did not have a lot of those to be honest. I put it in a category of cafes where you go to grab a coffee and chat and not necessarily work. There are plenty of better options if you want to work from a cafe, but they a lot of time lack the soul which this place has. They also known for their vegan options, but I wasnât feeling particularly vegan, so I just got the regular stuff. I got the cappuccino, which was how cappuccino should be and very well-made. I also got the BLT as I was pretty hungry, and they apparently also have a vegan bacon which Iâm very curious as to how it tastes, but I did not want to try it this particular morning. The BLT was extremely delicious. it was very simply made with fresh tomatoes, good lettuce, and most importantly, very good bread. They were no fancy ingredients, but the simplicity of the BLT and the quality of the ingredients made it stand out. I would definitely be back to try other things...
Read moreMy bf and I found kaibur coffee while looking for some vegan and gluten free breakfast options, and their sandwiches and iced americano were incredible. We just moved to Pittsburgh recently, and the vibe and people at Kaibur have been so friendly to us.
Today we came in with a family member visiting us, for some breakfast sandwiches, and had a previously purchased, clear, unbranded coffee cup from another cafe earlier that morning. The barista with the purple hair told my boyfriend he had an âinteresting coffee cupâ, and then proceeded to come outside, interrupt us and the other people sitting there that we had met, to tell us to pour our coffee in another unbranded clear plastic cup to make âit less obvious that we didnât get coffee thereâ. Again all of the cups were clear.
I could totally understand if we brought in branded cups, if our coffee was brand new (it was almost gone at that point), or if we sat down and hadnât purchased anything, but the reality is that we went in and bought 5 breakfast sandwiches, and brought a new customer in the the cafe.
I do not care to leave reviews like this, but we truly felt so uncomfortable, and how the barista treated us was not cool. We were kind and purchased plenty of food. Everyone else has been super chill and kind to us at Kaibur, and I still recommend the cafe. It was just the barista that...
Read moreJust tried this place for the first time today with a friend who has been before. Awesome hole in the wall type of place, decorated with awesome artwork and vintage star wars collectibles. Music was choice. I was happy when Weird Fishes by RadioHead started playing. The person working told me the name of the radio station that he plays, which I didn't quite catch, but he was very kind. Got a great cold brew with almond milk and lavender syrup. And I tried my first Banh Mi Sandwich that happened to be the vegan tofu variety. When I tell you it an explosion of fresh flavors and textures. So delicious and refreshing on a hot day. Savored every bite. My friend got her usual BLT with vegan bacon, which she loves. We were talking about how normally bread feels like a waste of calories when it is not that good. But even the bread was devine ciabata. Haha, definitely...
