Church Brew Works as the name suggests is a BrewPub in a former church. The experience was unique and cool, but I guess few may find it weird to visit a big Brewery/Pub in a church. The Ambience was great, service was nice with great choice of draft beers and decent food. These guys have renovated an old church and preserved its architectural beauty while converting it to a brewpub. There is a huge brewing equipment set at the altar, bar counter on the side and ample seating with high tables and normal ones too. We had tried the flight of beers which was a sampler of 8 drafts produced in house. The flight is ideal if you want to try a variety of beers in small quantity, especially when visiting with a group before ordering the ones you would like. Along with the drinks, we also tried some bar food. They had really few vegan/vegetarian friendly entrees. There were a few vegetarian friendly options in the appetizers section though. The bruschetta was really great, the home chips and fries were OK and slightly greasy. I felt like the food could have been better. Recommendations: Flight of Beers - A sampler of 8 draft beers Food: Bruschetta Overall, its a must visit place if you are in Pittsburgh to have a unique experience of a BrewPub at a church.

Looks like a church on the outside and kinda looks like a church on the inside, BUT it’s a full functioning restaurant & brewery! Absolutely incredible drinks, food, and outstanding service! 👉You are gonna wanna check out these photos 😉 DRINKS: **disclaimer** it’s super odd but the PB&J cocktail is surprisingly delicious! And tastes exactly like a pb&j 😋 Also, we tried the Mexicali Blues beer 🍻 which was definitely worth getting. FOOD: braided pretzel 🥨 for our app and that was really good! I got the chicken piccata, which came to the table steaming hot 😌 Honestly, it’s hard to get that at other places sometimes. 💯 My other 1/2 got the Buffalo Chicken Pierogi Sauté and it was truly outstanding. It was our first time trying pierogis and it turned out to be A+! SERVICE: Our server Devin was fast, friendly, and new the menu front to back. Ask to sit in his section next time you are there!! The manager, Phillip, who helped us out to buy a few souvenirs from CBW. He was patient, helpful, and sparked a conversation with us. We were very impressed. We can’t wait to go back to Pittsburgh again just so we can eat here 👍😋 GOTTA check out these photos 👇👀 Food is gonna make you hungry.

This place is really cool, such a cool concept turning a church into a brewery! Our greeter was so sweet and when we were sat at our table waiting for our friends, we had a server, Taylor who was so happy to tell us about the menu and if he could get us anything while we waited for our friends to join us. Keep in mind I to work in a brewery in Canada. So when I get limited time during my short visits when I come to Pittsburgh to visit my fiancé and family/friends I get so excited to check out new places. Alicia took over our table, and when she asked if she could get us anything I politely told her Taylor had already come by. She right away said “oh we got tables mixed up.” She was nowhere near as friendly and bubbly as Taylor so we were a little bummed. I ordered a raspberry mojito and when she brought it out it looked like a regular one and when I asked if it was flavored she dismissed me right away and said “yes.” If there are no raspberries being added or some sort of red color it’s safe to assume anyone would have made the same assumption as me…. Everyone at the table agreed she could have simply told me yes it’s simply the rum that is flavored. Our meals were pretty good including the appetizers.. but god forbid we ordered more drinks. This server just does not like tables who don’t eat and immediately leave after. I mean hey? That’s how I make my tips! Enjoy the beer/drinks, your time and let me know if there is anything I can do! This girl does NOT feel the same way! Everytime we ordered a round it’s like we annoyed her. She was so sour! We were brought full glasses and she kept lurking and said “can I get you anything?” After given FULL glasses!? Transfer your damn table if you wanna go home! To the point we just didn’t order anymore cause we felt rushed! We wished we would have had Taylor from the get go. She immediately brought our bills after we said nothing else although we could have easily kept buying more drinks. We paid and stayed… drinking our waters. She never asked how our food was, if she could refill our waters throughout the night, just to get our money and go at the end. Really cool place, but she gave us such a terrible feeling that if we decide to give this place another try, cause it really was awesome, we will request a different server.

Recently visited Pittsburgh with a group of people and we were all excited to check out this place. We arrived and there was an hour and a half wait to be seated, no problem! We decided to have drinks at the bar while we waited. As soon as we approached the bar, the bartender was obviously very overwhelmed. Her name was Madison and she was the most rude employee I have ever met in my entire life! She immediately told us “You’re going to have to wait, I have like 6 people ahead of you!”. Again, it’s okay, we understand the place was busy, no big deal! Once she got to us, one person in the group asked if the Riesling was on the dryer side, and her response was “the descriptions are written right underneath, can’t you read?!”. Then she advised that they were all out and she walked away. She comes back and the same person tried to order another drink, a Cabernet. Madison, again, stated they were all out of that too and walked away again. On the third time Madison came back, a different and third drink was ordered, being a Mule. When the Mule was ordered, Madison slammed the menu down in front of us. A comment was made amongst ourselves of “doesn’t she work for tips, that’s not a good way to act” (rightfully so), but was overheard by Madison. Instead of apologizing, her response was “hunny, one bad tip isn’t going to break my night”. When the Mule finally arrived, it was placed in front of another man who was not with our group. This sparked a conversation with the couple next to us who were complete strangers to us and witnessed all of this. They also told us that before we even sat down, Madison was complaining to them about her job and other personal issues, which I won’t go into detail about…. Just WOW!!!! Horrible customer service!!!! With that being said, the check was asked for after our one round of drinks. Anyways, Madison should not have a job where she has to deal with people because she clearly cannot handle it! It’s also safe to say, even though the building was beautiful, because of Madison, we will never be back. She ruined the entire experience with her very poor communication skills and lack of customer service!

After visiting the Church Brew Works, you can say that you have been in church with beer as your communion 😉🍻 - one of the most eclectic brew house buildings I have ever visited, down to the details. Upon entering the cathedral like building, with a large “on the eighth day, man created beer” sign, you find your seats are pews, your menus are pulpit-eque, and your altar…brewkettles. Pretty incredible. The award winning beer (thunder hop ipa) is deserving of all accolades and praise, and the celestial gold was a refreshing light Pilsner. The restaurant offers a wide selection of food - we enjoyed Buffalo chicken pierogis and a sizable pear salad, which both tasted fresh and flavorful. Service at the table was phenomenal, however the host seemed a little grumpy and not so welcoming. The restaurant and brew house is clean and certainly a very exciting + entertaining experience - however the building does smell a bit musty, likely from the hops (brewed in house) and the age of the church itself. The lighting was a bit dark and green, and could be improved to create a more warm atmosphere.

I recently visited The Church Brew Works and found the experience exceptional on multiple levels. Nestled in a historic church, the ambiance is awe-inspiring with its intricate stained glass windows and detailed brickwork, perfectly preserving the grandeur of the original architecture. I started my meal with the Traditional Pierogies appetizer. Being a dish deeply rooted in Eastern European culture, the pierogies are tasty and perfectly textured. I paired this delightful appetizer with their ThunderHop IPA, which complemented the dish beautifully. For my main course, I opted for the Jubilee Hilltop Ranch Meatloaf accompanied by a glass of Cabernet. The meatloaf was exactly as comfort food should be—warm, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. I sat at the bar during my visit and must commend the staff, particularly the bartender, who was attentive and amiable, enhancing my dining experience. From the food quality to the ambiance and the service, The Church Brew Works scores high on all counts. It's not just a place to dine; it's an experience not to be missed.
