I had a 3-day juice cleanse delivered to my office on Tuesday, 7/24/18 and was excited to try my first cleanse. I finished the first three of my juices by 4pm that day and by 6:30pm, I started to feel off. By 7pm I was extremely sick. For the following 24 hours, I was stuck in bed, sick and dehydrated.
I called PJC on Thursday morning to explain the situation and ask for a refund since I had gotten sick and had 15 remaining juices that I couldn’t drink. While the food poisoning itself was bad enough, the customer service managed to be even worse. The owner returned my phone call and was immediately defensive, dismissive, and rude. It was clear that she did not believe me, I assure you I did not exaggerate, and had no interest in coming to an understanding.
I was told that had I followed their cancellation policy and cancelled 24 hours in advance, I would have gotten a refund. To that I say, if I had known 24 hours in advance that the juice was going to make me sick, I certainly would have cancelled. I was also told that had I called as soon as I got sick, perhaps they would have refunded my money but I had waited too long. When I explained how sick I was, I was told that the owner had gotten food poisoning the weekend before and had not been that sick. I did not see how that was an appropriate response and would say that she was very lucky, not that I was lying.
Perhaps the most concerning of all was that I was repeatedly told that I could not return the juices because they would be expired, implying that had they not been close to expiration, they would have re-sold the juices that I had just told them made me sick. My offer to return the juice was to show that I had not had most of them and to return the glassware, not to suggest that they be re-sold, however, the owner harped on this point repeatedly.
She will likely respond to this review and say that no one else who drank from the same batches of juice reported being sick and that’s a really good thing, but it does not change the fact that I did. She will likely say that I chose a 3-day delivery rather than the recommended daily pickup, however, it was the first day of the cleanse.
When I told her that I intended to leave a negative review, I was told that she wasn’t sure she wanted to be in business because of people like me and my reviews. The only thing I can say to that is that it won’t be negative reviews that put a company out of business, it will be the complete lack of customer service and the owner’s inability to realize that despite her convictions, I may have actually been right in this instance and that a little compassion and compromise can go a long way. The staff is very helpful if you give them an idea of what you’re looking for, whether you’re grabbing a smoothie/juice for breakfast or an after workout pick-me-up, they’ll point you in the right direction. I’ve even told them what my favorite flavors are and they’ve made fantastic recommendations. My personal favorite, if I’m craving something sweet for after dinner, but want to stay safe w/a healthy option, I’ll grab the smoothie that’s similar to a mint chocolate chip milkshake w/cacao nibs...amazing! Also, the items they have to eat are really good too! The energy bites are perfect for a quick little something to snack on. The rice bowl really hits the spot too. I tried the stuffed tomatoes, and sometimes they’re a hit or miss for me.
