My family and I had been frequenting the area for a few months, passed Legends a few times, talked about stopping in for a bite to eat and a few days ago, did so. We could have not been happier. Legends is an intimate eatery with a home like feeling and vibe. The restaurant is small but yet very spacious. We were greeted by friendly inviting staff immediately and couldn't have felt more welcome. The Staff made us feel like it was their pleasure that we walked in. That kind of service is rare these days. It was very clean and with a wonderful aroma of fresh cooked food that made our mouths water. Our server, Janet, couldn't have been more friendly. Once she learned we were first timers, she took some time to explain the menu and offered spot on recommendations. My wife got a panini with French fries and I got chicken parmesan with pasta. The chicken was hand breaded, packed with flavor, well cooked, yet juicy and was able to be cut easily with a fork. The gravy, definitely home made and I'm sure if it was ever entered into a contest, would win an award. It's advertised as Mama's Gravy I believe and that title couldn't more suitable. Made me feel like gram was in the kitchen cooking it up. Absolutely delicious. My wife's panini was packed full of turkey and fresh vegetables. The French fries were clearly fresh cut. She couldn't have been happier. I will add this, they served our dinner with fresh baked bread and their mixture of olive oil dipping oil. Well it was so good, we bought our own bottle for home and have been giving it to all our guests. We couldn't eat any more but took an order of canoli home and later that evening we opened them up.....dear lord. Home made, fresh, well cooked, packed full of flavor yet light. To top that visit off, the prices were low and I felt like we should pay more for the service and food we experienced. In the end, if your in the area, if you don't stop by Legends, your only cheating yourself. The experience left enough of an impression on us that we will frequent Legends any chance we can and will even make the hour and a half trip from home to treat...
Read moreI have been wanting to try Legend’s for a long time, several years now. And, I finally did it. I tried a pretty solid range of items: the penne vodka, apple pie, house made focaccia bread, and side salad.
Let’s start with the main course, the penne vodka. I’ve actually never had this dish before, but I thought it was very well made! The portion was definitely adequate, and it was clearly high quality. It’s quite creamy, and doesn’t taste like vodka at all. A tad bit of sweetness to it too. There’s not much prosciutto, and it was all just kind of one clump in the bottom of the pasta, but it was still good.
The side salad served complimentary with it was actually surprisingly good. Not just lettuce and cucumbers like in many other places. They had carrots, onions, spinach, blue cheese, and a very tasty ranch. The ranch, while very good, had a sort of grainy-ness to it, in texture. Other than that, fresh and very good!
The little pieces of bread were also a lovely complimentary treat. I believe they are made in house, and I loved them. They’d be even better with a little oil (and I think they do have that option as an appetizer).
Finally, the caramel apple pie. It was good, but a bit of a let down. The crust was kind of flavorless, and there wasn’t really a strong caramel flavor to it. It was still good, and a great serving (although also pretty expensive), but not the best I’ve had.
All in all, a very good, quantity, little Italian spot on the North side. Great spot for celebrations and high quality food. I...
Read moreWe arrived in Pittsburgh from Toronto, Canada for a family reunion and were famished. Since we did not know the area, we asked around for a good Italian restaurant. After driving around for several minutes with no luck, a local resident asked us to follow him to this restaurant. The menu looked skimpy and I had my doubts. I was able to see the cook right in front of me and I started throwing my questions at him. I saw a smile appear on his face as he calmly answered while flipping pans of pasta and other interesting concoctions. Everything looked tasty and promising so we decided to give it a try. We no sooner sat down than the chef (who turned out to also be the owner) appeared with his signature dish of "beans and greens" for us to sample. It was absolutely delicious!! The three of us placed our orders and let me tell you, EVERYTHING was tasty and the portions were large. We left stuffed and very pleased! We told all our local relatives about our experience only to discover that one of our cousins had already eaten at your restaurant, Dan, and also gave your food rave reviews. Since most of us tend to make judgements based on location and first impressions, this little restaurant on the corner is testimony to the adage "don't judge a book by its cover". We were glad we didn't because we were richly rewarded not only with the excellent food, but also with the generosity and warmth of the owner. THANK YOU, DAN, for visiting with us and for the wonderful meal. You...
