So got lost from Strip District to here, went through a bridge to catch a bus back to downtown, and couldnt hold a pee and found this hidden gem in the North Side. We want to order something quick and want to use the restroom real quick as well. So I read the review on gg real quick and got a Chicken Lo Mein & Chicken Momo (didnt know it was a momo, knew that fact after I brought it home for my roomate, I just called it dumpling) Everything was very quick, another short-staffed place. I believe he is the owner/server/host/kitchen runner. He was very fast and I didnt have the time to ask about the recommendation and ask what kind of dumpling is that. What you want, I ask what is that he said dumpling, can i have that. He said yes sure, very swiftly and bring out the momo out for me like the next 5'. Lo Mein was very salty for my friend's taste but other seasoning in that is good so I quite enjoy it. The momo I think the stuffing is Nepal style, so it was a new experience for me (but still salty) but if we dipped it into the sauce it quite balance the taste of the momo so a plus for that (new but not bad at all). The atmosphere is very mordern. Perfect for a date night or group of friends want to experience new places and try new style of Asian food, they have different of Asian food actually (Chinese, Nepal, Indian, Mediterranean, etc...). I don't know if we can travel to the northside after sunset but I felt it's quite unsafe (maybe just a feeling). Other than that, everything in the restaurant was very good (the price is very reasonable as well for good food and good atmosphere).

What an awesome spot. Pretty hidden away and easy to miss, but it seems that many of the best spots are hole in the wall. They have a very diverse menu that includes Bhutanese, Nepalese, Indian, and Chinese food. I got to try out their dal with rice, kheer, and mango lassi. Wow. Everything was just so, so good. Great portions too. The dal with rice was perfectly spiced. It had that very nice home cooking touch to it that I just can’t quite describe. But very very good. And cheap too! The mango lassi was very good too. Again, such an amazing portion for a pretty reasonable price. It was a tad too orange looking when I initially saw it, but the flavor was quite good, so no problems there. Definitely hit the spot and would be a must get if you order a very spicy dish (the dal wasn’t excessively spicy). Looked a bit too watery at first, but once you stir it, you see the whole dal kernels, and they are amazing. The kheer…wow. The portion for this was absolutely huge. And it was still nice and warm when I got it! Not the most flavorful perhaps (some raisins would be an amazing add on), but still very creamy and delicious. Amazing. All in all, I’m so glad I finally got to try this place out. I’ve been wanting to go for upwards of 3 years now, and I finally did. Would love to come back and order everything I ordered plus the momo and Bhutanese food.

Really enjoyed my time. I was going to get take out for first try but stayed when I walked up the steps to the second floor location and saw how spacious it is. There is a bell at the counter in case they are busy in the kitchen. Really nice and relatable couple. Had the chicken thali which is the Nepali selection with curry and rice being the main section. This has other components with it so it makes for a nice meal. (Loved the rice pudding. I think it has cardamom in it.) I asked about changing the spice level but it seemed like they couldn't. It is spicey but maybe not as strong as typical Nepali food. I had a mango lassi along with the meal to help. It was tasty as well. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and the place. Reminded me of my friends and travels to the Himalayas. I will definitely return to have the Bhutanese selections. It is a treat to have this accessible so close to home.

Subba is a the definition of little hole in the wall restaurant. Foodies will love it.

It's these kind of places I love to find. The food is almost always phenominal- and Subba lives up to that expectation.

I knew it was going to be good as soon as I smelled the aromas from the kitchen.

I will definitely be back to try some of their other offerings.

I ordered the goat thali and Thukpa soup.

The goat thali is my favorite thing I've eaten recently. Rich, savory deliciousness from the goat meat, flavored well with the spices.

The side of pickled veggies makes a good contrast to the (rich) goat, and also acts well as a pallette cleanser.

With all of the sides, It's a lot of food. I should have eaten half of if and saved the second half as another meal.

I didn't even get to the Thukpa soup, but I'm looking forward to eating it tomorrow.

I do wish that they side orders of naan- that would have been perfect for the various sides that come with the meal.

Granted, it's already a lot of food and right now I'm both very full and very happy.

I ordered it to go, and sat and waited since I didn't order ahead of time. I wasn't waiting long at all- maybe about 10 minutes as it wasn't busy.

I believe it's family run by a husband and wife. I didn't see any wait staff. As others mentioned the decor is dated.

Here's the thing about hole in the wall restaurants: the food is great, and it's well priced. Subba is both.

In perspective: This food in an updated restaurant in a nicer area should easily cost 50-75% more.

If you're passionate about food like I am, I highly...
