The wait staff was rude and may have spit in my food. My wife and I went here for dinner. She ordered crab legs and I ordered crab cakes. It would have been the most l have ever spent on dinner for just the two of us but it was our anniversary so we decided to splurge. My wife's food came out first or so we thought. After the waitress set her plate down she turned to the table next to us and asked the guy sitting there if he ordered crab cakes. He replied "no". Then she asked if he touched the plate of crab cakes that had been sitting in front of him. He again replied "no". She then took the plate from in front of him and set it in front of me. I have no idea how long it sat in front of him. It was at least 5-10 minutes. I don't know why he never told the wait staff it wasn't his. Most importantly I don't know if he sneezed, coughed, or spit when he talked, all while this plate was in front of him. I politely asked if I could have a new plate as I didn't want to eat that one after being served to someone else first. The waitress said nothing, just took the plate and sighed loudly. A little while later she returned with a new plate. She slammed it down in front of me while again saying nothing, turned quickly and made a "humpf" sound. At this point it was rude but not enough to ruin my evening. As I was about to start eating I noticed what looked like dried spit. As if one of the crab cakes had been spit on while cooking. To be honest I don't know what spit would look like if it were cooked into a crab cake, but there was definitely something on one of them. Also a potato was in the crab cake dipping sauce and had been pushed pushed down in. So the plated was undoubtedly tampered with. What is most concerning is the fact that this had to have been done by a cook. Meaning more than one person was in on it. I can't remember ever asking to see a manager before in my life but in this case I had to. He handled it as well as he could. I obviously didn't reorder anything else. I'll never eat there again and crab cakes are now ruined for me. While posting this I see there's other negative reviews regarding the wait staff being rude. Seems it's an on going problem. My recommendation is to steer clear...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband I dined here on Saturday night because we wanted a dog-friendly spot. I did not expect, when we ordered the Cajun Ahi Tuna app, to receive the equivalent of two full size servings of tuna (seared and seasoned perfectly). My husband ordered the crab cake entree and I ordered the garlic lime shrimp entree. They did not skimp on the portions of the proteins. We enjoyed the atmosphere and service so much that we brought my parents back for lunch today after walking out dogs around the island. (I wish I had taken the time to write down our servers name, but we had him both Saturday night and Sunday at open - tall gentleman serving the dog-friendly section). On the second day, we ordered: 2 salmon blts, the fish and chips dinner, and the portabello sandwich. All were fantastic and I will be thinking about the breading on the fish for weeks to come. The painkiller pitcher was also incredible! The only complaint I have is a mild one and one that I can likely chock up to circumstances. My dad ordered the portabello sandwich with sweet potato fries. His meal was brought out first, about 5-8 minutes before the other entrees, and only the sandwich was brought out. The server reported they were working on the sweet potato fries. Parents are in the hotel industry and I am in F&B as well, so we found this unusual. However, given that we are in the industry, I would anticipate any number of reasons for the misfire/timing like limited stock and not wanting to waste product on the last day of being open, so it was understandable and did not, at all, ruin the meal. if anything, I would apologize to the server because the mishap instead lent way to my dad taking full advantage of the opportunity to make as many dad jokes as he could, i.e: when the sweet potato fries were delivered a few minutes after we all received our entrees, my father, having finished the sandwich, joked that "I think I'm missing my sandwich?" When asked if everything looked okay. I have not yet pushed him in the river for that, but there's still time... My only other complaint is that we discovered this place on the last weekend they were open and will now have to wait until Spring...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was looking for a place where we could go for dinner along one of Pittsburgh's rivers. Despite there being three rivers, there is not a lot of actual waterfront dining. I found this place and we went there for dinner, despite seeing some less than stellar reviews on Yelp.
The first thing that didn't please was that the deck, which seems to be main feature in nice weather, only has views of water along one side. There was, surprisingly, a table open along that side so we asked for it, but before the host could seat us, another 'white shirt' said he was claiming that table as part of a group. I say 'white shirt' because it wasn't clear to me who was a server, who was a host, who was manager and who was staff. We ended up at a table in the middle of the deck, with little view of the water.
But wait! Another couple left, opening up a table. Looking around I did not see anyone vying for it, unlike the previous table. We asked a server if we could move to that table, and he said he would check. He didn't return for several minutes, so I was looking around, hoping not to lose this opportunity.
A white shirt saw me looking over and came over and asked if we needed something. I asked if we could move to the open table, whereupon he informed us that, once an order has been placed, no switching of tables was permitted. Apparently, having servers switch tables is just too confusing for this place. Or, having our ticket transferred to another server and having them work it out wasn't possible. The worst thing was the explanation wasn't offered with any sort of apologetic tone or words. Just a no you can't do that.
At this point I will note that previous reviews had noted the attitude of the staff, so I really wasn't surprised. Other negative comments were regarding the speed of service and quality of food, but we had no real objections regarding either. Not the best meal by any means, but its main appeal is the waterfront.
Would we go again? Possibly, but it's not high on the list, and we won't go...
