Located in the Hazelwood neighborhood, this converted British style pub in one of the oldest buildings in Pittsburgh is both a feast for the mouth and the eyes. My wife and I went for a Valentine's dinner on a cold and rainy night after I had heard a good amount of hype about this place, and it thankfully lived up to expectation.
The main dining area is located in what was seemingly the basement of the centuries old home, and you get the nice, rustic feel while also enjoying the modern amenities of a well stocked bar and what not. With this place being noted for mixed drinks, my wife and I split between a Paper Plane (which was well crafted and refreshing and a nice stout for Hazel Grove, the local brewery just down the hill from the restaurant.
I ordered the Seafood Shepards Pie, which was flavorful and served with an enjoyable side of roasted vegetables, though I admit the portion was a touch small for the price tag, but that's largely just how the food industry is at this juncture. My wife enjoyed the Guiness Beef Pot Roast Mac and Cheese, which was hearty and flavorful. We split some of the rotating flavor bread pudding (it was chocolate peanut butter this time) for dessert, and it was very tasty, and a rather huge portion for the $8 price tag (definitely sized to share).
Overall, it was a great experience at The Woods House, from the charming atmosphere to the historical importance to the food and drink. I would definitely like to go back, and may even try in the warmer weather, since the outdoor patio and bar area with a view of the river and city skyline seemed like a nice place to enjoy a drink and some conversation. Definitely worth making the trip over to Hazelwood if in or around the Pittsburgh area, though you'll probably need to make reservations ahead of time, since the place was and always seems to be at capacity, which speaks for itself in the current...

I'm a bit biased as I live in the neighborhood (which another reviewer stated was not very nice - I may differ on that.) Full bar with a small draft selection. There are vegetarian options on the menu for those who need them, beyond the typical salads. Some nights there is live music - check the Facebook page, as I think it's not a regular occurrence.
Appetizers: The Scotch Broth, Scotch Eggs, and Whipped Goat Cheese are appetizer highlights. I'd go for those before the soups. Nothing wrong with them, just not as interesting.
Entrees: They are all good (I've had everyone.) The Guinness Pot Roast mac and cheese is great, but can eat a bit rich. Each time I've ordered it I think I'll take half home, but I eat it all anyway. The Fried Green Tomato sandwich is a fun change on a classic, and the Indian spices go well with it.
Desserts: Limited selections - a crème brulee or bread pudding, that hey change up flavors of on occasion. Both are good - the bread pudding portion is easily enough for two people. If you're feeling fancy, you could swap out dessert or a dessert coattail like a grasshopper or a pink squirrel. They are not on the menu but the Anil the bartender knows quite a few different options.
Atmosphere: Eat downstairs if you can. The atmosphere is just more fun that upstairs. The upstairs is nice, but the surfaces are hard and as a result it's a touch echoey. The upstairs also doesn't have the buzz of the...

Addendum to respond to your reply: This was all said to our table by your server. She apologized for being out of everything and stated this happens a lot because everything is done at the beginning of the week (Wednesday for you). She also said that she had tried to get her superiors to do things differently since this happens frequently and they wouldn't.
Perhaps instead of sending thin-skinned 2am retorts to your paying customers, you could focus on improving your processes so that your well-intentioned employees don't feel obliged to apologize for your poor management.
Responding to your second reply offering to cover my check: No thanks. That's not why I wrote the review. If I wanted my check covered, I'd have just spoken with the wait-staff, who was lovely and far more frustrated with your ownership/management than I am. I'd encourage you to give the ~$50 I spent at your...
