I did not have an enjoyable experience at La Fogata. I will, first and foremost, say upfront that the food was good. I had a steak with onions and peppers that came with rice and beans. The steak was cooked well, and was generous for the price. However, the food was very bland overall, even if it was cooked well. The salad is a joke, sliced tomato, sliced iceberg lettuce, and sliced white onion in a small pile. It looks like something you get from a roadside diner. Regardless, the food was not the source of my complaints.
The restaurant is barely furnished. I wouldn't normally complain about this at a cheap eats type location, but when you have a full service dining room, it should at least be decent looking. The lack of furnishings also lead to one of the most obnoxiously loud evenings I've had in a while. Despite the fact that half the tables were empty, there was still constant noise echoing off the bare walls and floors that made conversation annoying and difficult. The kitchen's open nature added to this noise.
Speaking of the kitchen, considering the plain nature of the food (again, no complaints, really, about the final product) our meal took unbelievably long. We were seated at 6 and we weren't served food until 7:15. We had tickets for an 8 o'clock show, so we were keeping a close eye on the clock. For rice, beans, and grilled meat, I can't really understand what took an hour to prepare when the place wasn't even full.
The service was lousy. Our waittress seemed stressed and in a rush, but I don't know why. After we drained our waters, she brought a small pitcher that refilled 2 glasses. Then we never saw her again until our food came out an hour later. I also didn't even know they served alcohol until I saw another table get a margarita. Would have been nice to have during the long wait during which conversation was difficult.
The bathroom was foul, with no soap and an empty toilet roll. There was something disturbing looking stuck in the light fixture, which may have been there intentionally to dim things in the hopes you wouldn't notice the grimy nature of the toilet.
The relative quality of the food pulls this up to a 2 star review. Otherwise, I would have left it at 1. Regardless, I doubt...
Read moreThis unpretentious, low-key corner restaurant was a delightful surprise for us. Not only is the food interesting and thoughtfully prepared, it's quite good. Don't be fooled by the interior, which is a bit plain and cafeteria-like. The cuisine her has a lot more depth and character than it might first appear....
For example, you wouldn't think that pinto beans could be prepared in a way that makes your mouth water every time you think of them, but that is the case at La Fogata. The same is true of the very tasty and tender steak. As well as the empanadas, served hot and fresh from the fryer. And even the fried plantains are special. But what makes this restaurant so interesting is that when these items are all served up on the same plate, they compliment each other perfectly...so much so that you don't want to run out of any one of them first.
My personal favorites are the chicken empanadas, the steaks (higher quality meat than most other restaurants in the area), and the flan. The flan is actually the best I've ever had...especially when topped on request with copious amounts of whipped cream.
We've tried several dishes so far and haven't been disappointed. The only challenge we've had coming here has been the parking, but that frustration has been a small price to pay for such a memorable...
Read moreJust moved to outside of Pittsfield and I couldn’t be happier to find this gem of a place! We walked in and were greeted with a smile and taken to our table. The waitress was extremely kind and happy. What a great start! We ordered the empanadas chicken and beef which were both fantastic and highly recommended. The sauces on the side gave it an extra amazing touch! I then ordered the breaded chicken cutlet with beans rice and tostadas. My fiancé ordered the traditional Columbian yellow rice with chicken. WOW is what I have to say!! The portions were giant which is exactly what we were craving. The quality and taste were spectacular. Everything was made to order. I am used to getting rice that was cooked that morning. NOPE! Rice was freshly made to order. Even though we were very full we wanted to try more! So we did... The flan dessert was a nice end to our dinner. This restaurant really knows how to cook and make food so tasty. I cannot wait to go back here! Everything is homemade and you feel like you’re in a true Columbian restaurant. Thank...
