One of those rare moments when I visit OC. I went to see one of my best friends! I remember this place back when I was in high school.
The restaurant is on the smaller side but with the patio included it isn't so small. Something about the decor and the lighting makes the place feel so cozy and warm. (Although it was.....FREEZING yesterday) While me and my friend wait for our friend to end her shift we decided to grab something small to eat so we wouldn't just be...sitting there hahaa
we ordered the truffle butter edamame. OH YES. TRUFFLE BUTTER... BUTTER haha It was very savory and you can definitely taste the buttery truffle but ...once you pass the shell and get to the actual beans the taste on the outer cover doesn't get to the beans so you're just left there hanging with no taste but the bland edamame. Yes, of course the edamame itself is very delicious but we ordered the truffle butter ...because we wanted the full blast of truffle butter. We asked for some salt....and did our own little work but the more you eat it you get used to the taste even without the salt/ soy sauce.
We then ordered the sashimi platter.. (light snack...haha) They give you a choice of california roll or spicy tuna roll. It comes with tuna, salmon, yellowtail and white fish sashimi with a side of soup or salad. The salad dressing was delicious! The salmon and yellowtail tasted very fresh and buttery. Especially the cut of the yellowtail was more towards the belly part. (which usually has a shimmery white color.) But...the tuna... was okay. I LOVE tuna but their tuna was fine. It wasn't anything to go crazy over but it wasn't bad. For a sushi restaurant in OC this place had many interesting option on their menu. I wish we were there to eat but we wanted to snack on something and go eat together with a friend.
I'd recommend this place if you're...
Read moreOk people this is for all you dog lovers out there, so this review is not for everyone. Let me start by telling you that my wife and I are dog lovers. We have a 15 year old blind poodle that we take with us inside a stroller. He's been with us since he was a baby. He's is everything to us and boy he's been through a lot, you can say he's part of the family. This was our fist time here at this restaurant. The restaurant has an outdoor patio. When we arrived, there were only 2 families eating inside the restaurant and nobody was eating outside in the patio. We take our little dog everywhere with us. And during hot weather we even take a Cooling Fan with us to make sure our little dog is cool at all times.
When I walked inside the restaurant and spoke with 2 servers that were at the door and before I said anything 1 of the servers immediately told me that they don't accept dogs. I told the server I understand we don't mind sitting outside in the patio. Right away the server said the owner does not like dogs. That surprised us. Then the other server said the same thing. That the owner does not like dogs at all. Then the cook inside making the sushi rolls also said the same thing. That the owner does not like dogs. They said, since the dogs are not people they are not allowed. Not a single person was outside eating in the patio and my dog was not going to bother anyone. I guess for those dog lovers who enjoy going out for a meal with your dog this is not the restaurant to come to, maybe this review won't tell you how the food or service was but maybe it might just save you the...
Read moreHave lunch at this place every week or two, since starting work at a place in Brea. As I spend the day working in a concrete cave, prefer to eat lunch at a nice outside patio. This is a nice place, close to work, and one of the best spots I have found in the area.
Service and presentation is consistently excellent. In past (occasionally and on first visit) the sushi rice was a miss, but not of recent. Time to revisit this review.
(Several months before) Last visit, back to overcooked, mushy, starchy rice. Bummer. They really should not vary so much.
(Week yet before) Back again, as rather want the place to work for lunch. This time, dead on. Food and service was excellent. Might be my imagination, but think the rice improved since my last visit.
Hoping my first visit just hit on a bad day. :)
(Two weeks prior...) Went back to try this place again, hoping for a better result. The woman at the front did not look pleased. (Do they read these reviews?)
Food and service was excellent. Enjoyed my lunch. Hoping my first visit happened on a Bad Rice Day. Will have to repeat the sample to be sure. :)
(A few months prior...) Nice enough place to sit on the outside patio. Well kept. Friendly folk. Good presentation. Lunch was fine.
Was disappointed with the rice. Not sushi...
