A couple of months ago, I would have made this a 5-star review, but a recent lunchtime experience ruined it for me. My wife and I would usually save up our appetites and excitement to come visit Amerikan Ichi on a weekend with another couple, on the rare occasions when we could arrange babysitters at the same time. We loved our dinners here.
However, recently I had a rare weekday off of work, and decided to have a special lunch with my wife and sushi. We arrived and were seated quickly enough, and we placed our order rather quickly, but that's where it ended.
We waited for a solid hour without getting our food. The waitress only came by to check on us one time, after 30 minutes, and told us that our food was coming right up (incorrectly). At least 4 other table were sat, ordered, and served before we got our food. At least one table (seated well after us) actually ordered SECONDS before our food came up. No one came over to update us, apologize for the long wait, or explain anything.
We finally gave up and walked out (after over an hour), and as we got to the door, they started trying to bring our food out. At that point, we were so annoyed and upset at the total lack of communication, we just left. If someone had simply come and apologized, explained that our ticket got lost, or SOMETHING, we would probably have been fine.
We come from a family FULL of food service people, and really pride ourselves in being the most laid-back customers you could ever have, but the way they treated us (on a rather slow weekday lunch crowd, where we were clearly visible in a small room) left a HORRIBLE taste in our mouths, and I really don't know if we'll be going back. That makes me sad, because this used to be our "special date night with...
Read moreI used to proudly bring people in for family dinners or dates here but something has majorly changed. Lately I've had several lackluster experiences and I don't think I'll go back. This most recent time we came in between lunch and dinner and there really wasn't a lot going on, so while we anticipated waiting a little bit (we were not in a hurry, and notable that they literally have signs posted saying you'll wait 30 minutes for sushi...) we were watching the sushi guy talk with friends instead of making sushi. Picture it dwindling down to one other party in the whole place and we can literally see that they're not making any sushi. When it finally did come out, the salmon nigiri was NOT fresh tasting - yikes. While our waitress offered to correct the part of the order that they had misread/not made correctly, which was appreciated, at that point we didn't want to wait longer (who knows how long) for the quality of fish. So, while the waitress was very nice and apologetic for both the wait and the error, there's not much that can salvage the rest of the experience. I can understand being patient but not when the sushi staff is just, not working, for an extended period of time? I feel like the quality issue is new, however - prior, service fluctuated, especially when it was busy, but quality was not questionable. I understand there are off days but it's been 3 not great experiences in a row and the not-fresh salmon sealed the deal...
Read moreNot sure what happened to this place but they dropped the ball in lots of ways with our order tonight. I called ahead (Thursday 5:30pm) and was put on hold, that’s fine, then a while goes by and another person answers like they forgot I was on hold. I try to say my order which was two rolls and two miso soups. The woman didn’t have a language barrier but a competence barrier or something. I had to correct her SO many times when trying to say my roll/order that I asked if the phone was breaking up. She said no. Ordering was such a hassle because she kept reiterating things wrong then it would be an hour wait, sure I’d wait even when my gut told me to just go to another place. Went to pickup to realize she STILL didn’t get my order right and put one miso instead of two, had to wait longer for that and she still rung me up for the second one which was her mistake in the first place and held things up more. I get home and the second roll has absolutely no sauce on it and my friend said it was the “driest tasteless” roll ever. Mine would literally fall apart as soon as I grabbed it and I couldn’t even get it to my mouth before it was in pieces. Weird. Then they gave us one soy sauce packet for what was obviously a two person meal. One?? Really? So disappointed and will not be going here or recommending it after this...
