As an over-the-road truck driver, finding good food is like finding a unicorn – rare and magical. Well, folks, Asia Wok in Plainfield, IN is that unicorn! After a marathon drive that felt like I was reenacting "The Fast and the Furious: Truck Edition," I stumbled upon this culinary oasis.
The portions here are so generous, I thought they were trying to fatten me up for a cooking show. The General Tso's Chicken was so good, I almost proposed to it. Sweet, spicy, and cooked to perfection – it was love at first bite.
The staff? Friendlier than a golden retriever at a dog park. They welcomed me like I was a long-lost relative, and the service was faster than my truck on a downhill slope. The restaurant itself is clean and cozy, a nice change from the usual greasy spoon diners. And parking? Plenty of space for my big rig, so no need to practice my parallel parking skills.
Speaking of parking, let me tell you about the time I tried to park my truck at a tiny diner in the middle of nowhere. I thought I had it all figured out until I realized I was stuck between a tree and a dumpster. After a 20-point turn and a few choice words, I finally managed to squeeze out, but not without leaving a few tire marks on the pavement. Thankfully, Asia Wok has ample parking space, so no need for any trucker gymnastics here.
If you're ever in the area and need a meal that will make you forget all your road woes, Asia Wok is the place to be. Five stars, two thumbs up, and a happy...
Read moreIf you are vegan or vegetarian - please beware and be careful! I saw this place on Happy Cow as somewhere that can accommodate vegan options and decided to give it a try. The cashier was really friendly and helpful in answering our questions. We ordered the pad thai noodles and requested to make it vegan which usually means that the fish sauce and oyster sauce will be removed. When we received our order, to my surprise, there was fried egg pieces all over in the pad thai. The menu does not list that as an ingredient in this dish. I've also never seen fried egg in pad thai before (its usually in other Thai dishes) so I called the restaurant to confirm. The cashier checked with the chef and sadly confirmed that they did indeed place egg in the pad thai. This is really scary because egg is an allergen (not just a dietary preference) and that could have been potentially dangerous to add it in a dish where it is not listed as an ingredient on the menu.
In addition to this, we were going to add a soup to our order and the cashier informed us that all of their soups are made with chicken broth so it is not vegetarian. Again, on the menu, several soups are listed with a vegetarian sign notating that it is a vegetarian dish. To use chicken broth in a dish that is labeled vegetarian is not okay.
I'm thankful they refunded our full order but I want to warn those with dietary preferences or allergies to be very careful with getting food from...
Read moreOrdered online and arrived five minutes after the food was supposed to be ready. We waited in the very small and crowded dining area for an additional 25 minutes. Someone came in after we had checked in and ordered at the restaurant. While we waited, she placed her order, waited a bit, got her food, and left. We were still waiting on the order we had placed in advance. The cashier explained to us that she couldn't tell the kitchen workers that we were there because they didn't speak any English. Then we finally get our food and go home only to discover the chicken was very overcooked. We ordered general tso's and sesame chicken. We weren't expecting the chicken to be breaded in the same way it would if you ordered chicken with sweet and sour dipping sauce. The breading was crunchy - like biting into a chip - even though they had dumped sauce on it. It was very chewy and unappetizing. The chicken hadn't been cooked in the sauce so it didn't absorb any of the flavor and the breading didn't help matters. Needless to say, we will never be going back. If you only want low mein though we actually liked that. But it wasn't worth how long we...
