Me and my family have been dining at Crescent Moon since 2011 and we've always had a wonderful experience in terms of food and customer service. Today, however, our experience was awful. The owner's of the restaurant changed a couple months ago and we could see the decrease in the quality of customer service and management. While we were dining, we witnessed two men from management verbally abuse their woman worker. She was the only worker besides the three management staff we could see outside the kitchen and she was very sweet, helpful, and quiet. Numerous times we heard these two men yell at her to get out of the kitchen, serve the customers, don't take any new orders, stand over here/there, and many other demeaning commands. The woman took these orders without complaint but it was very unsettling and upsetting to witness this abuse. She was the only woman server in a restaurant full of men staff. It was probably already hard for her and the abuse we witnessed does not make it easier for her to do her job. It is super disappointing to experience and see this while we were eating. An establishment that doesn't treat their workers with respect and dignity do not deserve our patronage. We did speak to management before leaving, and we can only hope they took heed to our advice. I sincerely hope they receive training and their demeaning and disrespectful way of behaving at work changes. Other customers also seemed very bothered, it was a very uncomfortable experience and we could tell we were not alone in feeling that way. We do not plan to visit anymore (which is upsetting due to the lack of Halal Chinese options in...
Read moreZabiha halal Chinese food in the heart of Plano?! Yes please!! 🙌 We were so happy to stumble upon Crescent Moon while out thrifting in the area. The DFW halal scene is still heavy on hot chicken and coffee shops, so this place felt like a refreshing and delicious change of pace.
The restaurant is small, cozy, and unassuming, with Al Jazeera playing on the TV and a steady stream of folks coming in for big takeout orders. There’s also an extra room tucked away for larger groups or Ramadan nights, which is a nice touch.
Service was minimal but efficient—straightforward and to the point, which honestly was fine by us. Our food came out hot, fresh, and fast.
We ordered the most-recommended dishes: Mongolian beef and sesame chicken, both served with a generous bowl of fluffy white rice in a cool warming dish. The Mongolian beef had a little kick, and the sesame chicken was flavorful and satisfying. Portion sizes were large, and we devoured most of it between the two of us. They also provide hot chili crisp and sweet & sour sauce on the side, which was great for dipping!
Drink options are limited to canned sodas or bottled water—nothing fancy, but it gets the job done.
Only critique: the menu is extensive (which is exciting!) but a bit hard to navigate. No pictures or descriptions, so unless you’re already familiar with certain dishes, you might feel a little lost. We’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu, insha'Allah.
All in all, Crescent Moon is a hidden halal gem—great for when you're craving hearty Chinese comfort food without the guesswork of whether it’s zabiha. Highly recommend...
Read moreI rarely write food reviews, but my disappointment is so strong here that I'm writing quite a long one...
Drove quite a bit to what I thought based on reviews was a decent Chinese food place. Brought my family and cousin along while my parents were visiting town. Boy were we disappointed by the quality of the food! We ordered chicken corn soup, wontons, cashew chicken, orange chicken, Mongolian beef, walnut shrimp and fried rice/chow mein with combo proteins. In everything we tried, the taste lacked the kick & inspiration we were all used to and craving. Perhaps it was the week right after Eid that they were shortshaffed or something. The service and setup were also not the kind we were used to back in Socal.. so again, maybe our comparison point is a bit biasing. It was not a pleasant experience at all.
Food: No drinks on our tables until AFTER we were finished with most of the starters. They apologized for having forgotten. The wontons came way late and were piping hot. No stuffed cream cheese inside surprised me.. it was just stuffed with some chicken. We've never had wontons this bad in our lives. Everything else that followed were either fairly bland in taste or missed the mark completely to be called the menu item that it was.
On the plus side, their portion sizes are quite generous. The management and servers are very nice, welcoming, and generous. This of course doesn't make up for the lack of quality of the food, which was our main reason for going there. Gotta find a more decent/upgrade option for Halal Chinese food in the DFW area.. will continue exploring as we're still...
