Overall I love Bluebonnet Trail. Great West-East linear trail that crosses through Plano, utilizing Oncor right of way. Especially beautiful in the spring when flowers are in bloom. Not a lot of shade, so best to avoid during peak sun hours, but good for evening walks/runs/bike rides/dog walking. Paved trail makes it super accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, etc and keeps the trail usable year round since it will s rarely flooded after rain. The full trail is over 8 miles end to end (plus another 2.6 miles to the West that is unconnected) so best done in sections. This spot on the map is where it intersects with the North-South Chisholm Trail. Photos in this review are from the 2.5mi section of Bluebonnet trail between Preston Ridge Trail and Chisholm trail (see attached maps of all three). This spot provides parking but no restroom (hence the four stars — wish there were restrooms here and/or at more spots along this trail), so for longer workouts I recommend parking at Carpenter Park (where this trail intersects with Preston Ridge trail) which has a restroom.

Cute and clean area to take pictures in a field of bluebonnets. Not the largest area of bluebonnets that I’ve seen, but about half an acre full spread out in a few patches. That may just be due to a drought this year though. Lots of green grass along a paved sidewalk trail that runs underneath power lines. Perfect for running or biking, but not too busy at all. In total, my family probably passed 8 other people on the trail within an hour just before sunset in mid-April. It appeared to be a safe neighborhood. We found patches of bluebonnets to be along the paved path about 200 meters east of Jack Carter Outdoor Pool, but then ended up taking pictures by another patch about 100 meters west of Roundrock Trail.

Our expectations were to see the blue bonnet and have a morning walk as well. Weather was beautiful, trail is beautiful but blue bonnets were not as we expected. But we did about 3.5 miles of walking and loved it. We saw people dog walking (there was a dog park close to where we parked), lots of people were biking, few were running. It’s a nice place to take a morning walk or evening stroll…

Nice stroll with the kiddos. The trail extends all the way from East Plano to West Plano about 6 miles So you can basically jump on at any point and should be nice. If you pull it up on maps, it'll take you to west Plano, to the actual section that has a sign that says bluebonnet trail. Anyways a nice walk, bluebonnets were nice photo ops. Walking through Plano so not remote or scenic but nonetheless...
