I had heard rave reviews about this place from a family member and decided to check it out with friends to see if it is worth the hype. When we arrived on a Friday night, we were told the wait would be about an hour. It turned out to be 2.5 hours…. 2.5 hours!!!! That is ridiculous! Anyway, we ended up waiting the whole duration and were finally seated around 8:30pm.
It was a zoo inside. The seating arrangement was quite close together. We were seated toward the back. Luckily, we had booth seating which was a bit roomier. The menu we browsed through had quite a selection of broths and a la carte items that we could add on to our order. We opted to go for the AYCE option. Go big or go home. Plus we waited 2.5 damn hours and were hangry.
We ordered the house special spicy broth and the duck broth. I will say that I’m not a fan of the duck broth as it is on the sour side. The house special spicy broth is good, however, prepare to choke on some chili oil and cough your lungs out. That broth is SPICY!! A tip for anyone who prefers a more mild version of this is to NOT put any of the chili oil bears in and also to take out the block of oil they throw in there along with the cube of peppers and spices. It makes a world of difference.
Now onto the meats. Because who the hell eats all the other green stuff. Just kidding. The meat quality was incredible. Easily the best quality of meat of any other hot pot/bbq spots in town. Incredible marbling and tender. I generally never eat beef tongue but my god…. It just melts in your mouth. The beef belly, lamb, marinated beef rib are all extremely delicioso.
We were fortunate enough to have the best server during this time who was extremely polite and attentive. He even got our table his secret dipping sauce recipe which paired with the hotpot perfectly. He made the experience much more enjoyable.
The buffet bar had options of other sauces and spices. On the other end were dessert options but don’t hold your breath because there weren’t many options. There wasn’t a line luckily.
All in all, the food was fantastic. We would definitely come back but probably much earlier to avoid the ridiculous wait time. Even considering coming on a...
Read moreThere are so many hot pot restaurants in Dallas, but there are only a few authentic Sichuan hot pot restaurants that are really delicious, have friendly service and are worthy of thumbs up! Today, my husband and I finally came to Liu Yishou Hot Pot Restaurant, which has been open for more than a year and is always crowded with people.
June in Dallas is already hot. In just 40 seconds from getting off the car and walking into the restaurant, we were already dizzy from the heat, but as soon as we entered Liu Yishou Hot Pot Restaurant, the comfortable air conditioning instantly removed the heat. We also knew instantly that this would be a very comfortable summer hot pot dinner!
After we were seated, the friendly waiter Mason came to help us order. Since this restaurant has too many items, for us who can eat everything and want to eat everything, and have choice disorders, ordering is always the most difficult part. But the professional and patient Mason quickly helped us confirm the food we wanted to eat. Thank you, Mason.
This Liu Yishou is an AYCE hot pot restaurant, charging only $28 per person. With a variety of items and quality food, this price is definitely worth it! Not only is the food served quickly, the ingredients are fresh and delicious, and the soup base is absolutely amazing because it is not only having the authentic Sichuan hot pot flavor, but also the soup is not greasy, and the fragrance is rich. I can guarantee that this is the most delicious hot pot soup that my husband and I have had in Dallas!
This night we completely change the stereotype of impression that eating hot pot will make our clothes smell of greasy hot pot.
Oh, by the way, my favorite dish here is the thin slices of beef tongue. You only need to blanch it for 10 seconds and put it straight into your mouth. It is recommended not to dip it in sauce. It is guaranteed to be heavenly in a second. I can't wait to plan to dine here next time. Such a high-level hot pot restaurant. I highly recommend...
Read moreHaving hot pot is a time to get together, converse and bond. It's more than just the food. Liuyishou clearly understands this and has made it easy by providing fantastic table side service combined with tasty broth and fresh, well presented, ingredients.
At Liuyishou the servers bring all the food you ask for to the table. And, from experience with Hot Pot, this is of tremendous value when spending time with friends and loved ones. Other than concocting the sauce you may want from their sauce bar, there is no reason to interrupt the meal with constant trips to a buffet. The staff brings you anything you want and plenty of it.
As for the food, the broth was top of the line. We tried two, the "Liu's House Special Spicy Soup Base (medium hot)" and "House Special Portk Bone Soup Base". Both were excellent and filled with traditional seasonings and lots of them. They were so good, when we were finished my wife just wanted to drink the broth like soup, but we were way too full.
The ingredients for the Hot Pot varied widely. Both the more commonly known ingredients like Premium Beef Slices and Qual Eggs where on the menu as well as more traditional ingredients that might not bode well on an American palate. Regardless of where you're from, there is plenty on the menu to try out.
The staff was very helpful and guided an American couple next to us on how hot pot works and through the ingredients menu to ensure they, too, enjoyed their experience. So, there's no reason to be intimidated if you're interested in a new food experience and you haven't had hot pot before. I would recommend that you give yourself 2 hours, hot pot isn't a quick in-and-out meant.
We now have a new go to hot pot...
