I absolutely love coming to Mi Cocina on Preston Rd in Plano. My wife and I never have a complaint. Never - UNTIL LAST NIGHT. Contrary to what some people say - the food IS NOT sub-par! Mi Cocina wait staff and their food is top notch! Is it 100% traditional? No it is not. Is it Tex-Mex? No it is definitely not. It is somewhere in between. I would know, because my wife is 100% ChiChiMecan, born in Guanajuato Mexico. I am a gringo, and I cannot stand Tex-Mex food! But last night was our lone bad dining experience at Mi Cocina in Plano. The wait staff, actually our waiter to be exact, was off his game and was not attentive at all. We were horribly disappointed because we never have dismal service as we did last night. Also - the COCINA CHANGA should be taken off of the menu!!! I am absolutely SUFFERING still today almost 20 hours later!!! It is a disgraceful, cheap, taco truck item which SHOULD NOT BE ON THE MI COCINA MENU! I was absolutely mortified at how sloppy it was when my wife had to pick it up with two hands and eat it. It was such an embarrassing experience for her! So much that I slid over my favorite dish, the Poblano Chicken Enchilada, so that my wife could eat dinner gracefully like a lady. I felt terrible for her :( They drizzle a poblano cream sauce on it which tastes wonderful, but should actually be served in a dish on the side because it gets ALL OVER YOUR HANDS AND FACE!!! And the Cocina Changa is deep fried in soooo much grease!!!! As I said, the Cocina Changa is a cheap taco truck item and should not be on the menu!!! Mi Cocina should replace that item with Caldo De Res WHICH WILL BE A HUGE HIT with all of the gringos and obviously all of the Mexicanos. And also - put PONCHÉ on the menu for the fall and winter seasons. As I travel the United States with my wife, she sees how many people love their traditional hot apple ciders and hot midwestern punches in the colder seasons. But please - DROP THE COCINA CHANGA FROM THE MENU - it is a disgraceful embarrassing disgusting item!!! I was throwing up grease out of my nose all night in my sleep!!!! And the heartburn is insane!!!! I eat healthy and keep my body fit at 50 years old, the heartburn I have is indescribable from that Cocina Changa :( AS I SAID, the Cocina Changa is a CHEAP...

From the moment we walked in, she greeted us with a warm, genuine smile and an inviting energy that set the tone for a fantastic meal. She was incredibly welcoming, making us feel like valued guests rather than just another table. It’s rare to find a server who truly enjoys what they do, and Elizabeth’s passion for hospitality was evident in every interaction.
One of the highlights of our experience was Elizabeth’s deep knowledge of the menu. She took the time to ask about our preferences and made thoughtful recommendations, which turned out to be spot-on. Thanks to her suggestions, we tried the Sunset Enchiladas and the Rico Salad, both of which were bursting with flavor. She also guided us toward the perfect margarita pairing, ensuring that our meal was both delicious and well-balanced. It’s clear that Mi Cocina takes pride in their food, and Elizabeth made sure we got the best of what they had to offer.
What truly set Elizabeth apart was her attentiveness and impeccable timing. She checked in at just the right moments, keeping our drinks full and making sure we had everything we needed—without ever making us feel rushed. Even though the restaurant was busy, she handled everything effortlessly with a warm and genuine demeanor. It’s not often that you come across someone who can balance efficiency with a personal touch, but Elizabeth mastered it perfectly.
Overall, Elizabeth made our visit to Mi Cocina in Plano exceptional, and we left already looking forward to our next meal there. Great service can elevate an already great restaurant, and she certainly did that for us. If you're dining at Mi Cocina, I highly recommend asking for her section—you won’t be...

My parents' friend chose this place for dinner at 7pm ON A FRIDAY NIGHT without my knowledge. I put that part in all caps because a popular place like this in this level of economic area, you always want to check ahead of time to see if they take reservations, which they do not. So we get there before my parent's friend did & she chose the spot. We all kind of assumed that she had made a reservation and so when I approached the hostess, I mentioned that we were meeting some other people there for dinner and I wasn't sure if they had already been seated for the reservation and she told me they don't take reservations. So if I had known that, I would have ensured that we'd gotten there much earlier to get our name on the list. Fortunately for us, the wait time was only 30 minutes. Now I want to go on to the decor of the restaurant. IMO, it was beautiful mainly because I could see cobalt blue everywhere I looked! The chairs, booths, design of the bar, all of that is top tier IMO. our waitress, forgot to ask her name, but lengthy black hair & wore black glasses, she was awesome. Very attentive & I felt like she made the effort to ensure that the table's desires were met. Also appreciated the portion size of the meal. I came in hungry, ate enough to be full, & still had a lil bit left as a snack to eat later that night....
