Food Allergies Stay Away:
We have been eating at Sea Breeze for years. I have always felt it was pricey, but overall good food. Today my opinion changed... I will not return.
After telling our wonderful waitress about a dairy allergy (not dairy intolerance) she brought our food. We questioned her about the mayo based sauce because some store bought mayo sometimes has a small amount of dairy. She said "I asked too and he said 'I would not put it on there if it had dairy' ". We have been told this elsewhere just to be very sick later that day. So I asked, "do you make your mayo here? If not have you checked the label? If not, is possible that it contains dairy". The waitress was very cool about it and immediately said "I will check"
She approached the chef (its an open kitchen) who was perched on the counter with arms crossed and staring off in the distance (he may have been watching TV?). She asked him about the mayo. He did not look at her, he did not move, he did nothing other than motion with his head to the back room. When she waked away he mouthed an obscenity. I approached the chef who looked at me with surprise and disgust.
#1: The chefs butt was on the counter #2: The chef did not treat his server with common courtesy #3: The chef was not concerned enough about a food allergy to engage in a simple conversation.. and he wasn't even busy. #4: The chef had an attitude with asked an honest question
Because of the above, I paid my bill, tipped the waitress who did her job with style and left without eating a bite. Unfortunately, I created a scene after the chef acted as if he was above reproach. For this, I have regret... however, it does not change the facts.
I will not return. In addition to high prices, they have an arrogant chef who sits on counter, treats servers poorly and chooses not to satisfy a legitimate question about a food allergy. He needs to improve his attitude and/or work for a restaurant that does not have an open kitchen. Until then, I will not spend...
Read moreOk first off, the food was great. Our waiter Blake H however, was sub par. He started off the night informing us of the specials and appetizers INCLUDING prices for everything. We ordered two Old Fashions, both appetizers Blake recommended, and six oysters to start. For meals, I ordered the Baked Crabmeat Stuffed Haddock, which Blake informed me they were out of and could SUBSTITUTE it for another fish. He named off the fish and I just went with the first one. The bill arrives and my meal is $20 more than on the menu, with a different name. The original meal comes with two specialty sides, and I only ordered one, which adds to the ridiculousness of it. When I brought it up, Blake rudely said, "well of course look at the menu it's more expensive!" And no, the Walleye is not on the menu as a fresh market fish so how would I know?! But also, how on earth do you consider it a SUBSTITUTE then, and you were so open about pricing before, why didn't you mention it would be way more than double the price?? But then, he apologized and said it was his fault and still refused to change the price.
He was arguing for a good while about it, which my fiance and I both thought was so absolutely unprofessional, and the guests behind us were also appalled. He went to talk to a manager about it and over five minutes later a man comes up to us and says he'll take $10.50 off the meal. I argue again saying NO I didn't even want this, had I known it would have been double I would have gone with the Lobster Roll.
The food was great, but the behaviour of the staff was appalling. I'm a very easy going person, and would never have even noticed the charge if my fiance hadn't pointed it out. Blake H lost out on a $40 tip, and I will not be letting anyone I...
Read moreI was looking for a new food experience so I searched for restaurants in my area. Sea Breeze had some really good reviews and the photos of the food looked delicious. So I thought I would give them a shot.
I went during the lunch hour, around 12pm. It had a decent amount of people there. I was greeted and informed to sit where I'd like. I was immediately given a menu and asked what I'd like to drink. After that it took the waitress about 10 minutes to come back to me and take my order. I ordered the Taste of New England which came with a cup of chowder, a half lobster roll, fried clams, beer battered fish, slaw, and fries. The clam chowder was super hot (tempt wise) so it took me some time to eat but overall a very good chowder. When I received the main course I immediately went for the lobster roll, as many reviews spoke highly of it. I wasn't impressed at all. There seemed to be a lot of mayo and lacked seasoning. I went on to the beer battered fish which was really greasy but tasty. The coleslaw was nothing to rave over either. I went on to the clams and they were rather chewing. I later remembered a lot of reviews talked about hush puppies which I did not get with my order. I also ordered the Key Lime pie. Omg, it tasted like store bought pie. Not fresh or even close to it. For the price I would have gone to the grocer and got a whole pie.
I was expecting to be wow'd after reading the reviews and seeing the pictures. Sadly, I was not. Overall I am not sure I would be eating there again as I just wasn't overly impressed with the food. The place was clean and the...
